I preface this entire conversation by stating my opinion:

Times have changed. Period.

Topic:
I've debated this many times with several associates. Have the days of glass front gun cabinets passed? Are safes the current trend?

I think the answer is easy. I have thousands invested in one rifle much less an entire collection. The last things I'd ever do are:

A. Show everyone.
B. Leave them insecure

I do have one "show" weapon hanging on the wall and consider it a sleeper since most would consider it decor - however it is fully functional should the need present itself.

Do you agree the 'good ole days' are past? Do you display any weapons? Prefer keeping them secure?

ps. Just after posting this, there was a terrible boating accident where all of my weapons were lost.

when i finally get around to buying a home.....my office is going to be my "gun room".....they will be on display in mahogany cabinets......think like a fancy Victorian "cabelas gun library"....

that room will have a steel door and a reinforced door frame.....making the whole office a "safe".

my collection is valuable......but noting irreplaceable......a good insurance policy and reasonable security should cover it.

i also have a digital archive of my collection, with SNs and pictures and descriptions.......should anything get stolen i have that info on hand.

The only thing I would display would be a flint lock over over the fireplace but since I haven’t purchased the kit yet, the mirror that’s there now will have to do. Everything else is not in the open.

All pelicans and a safe here. AR pistol, rem 1100, and two pits to watch over the house. Wife is highly qualified with the 1100, that's why it stays available. Let's not mistake these words for "accessible", or "visible" or "within the reach of guests/children" : I can, however, access them quickly from any room in my house. Agreed on the times being different, most of us have a lot invested, and that's no one else's business unless you're privy to it, so why broadcast it for window shoppers.

Everything stays in my safe if im away.. when home i keep one pistol available that i can grab if needed... i also keep a weapon out that has a light attached and i train with it regularly. We dont have kids yet so i leave it out on my nightstand when im home.
