I've got a .308 Tikka T3 that I just put into a Manner MCS-T stock (with CDI DBM). When ordering I requested the pillar install but was told by Manners that the T3 inlet leaves enough material that pillars aren't necessary. Seemed kinda strange (since I've read a lot about how important bedding is) but I know a teeny tiny amount about this stuff and the folks at Manners know exponentially more so I'm apt to believe them.

Anyway, just wondering if others were getting good performance out of their Tikka actions without any bedding in a Manners stock. I'm sure the rifle is more accurate then I am but I'm just wondering if I made a mistake in starting out with a Tikka action and if I should have went with a more conventional action.

Pillars keep the stock material from crushing, evidently there is enough stock material between the action and bottom metal they are not needed.

Bedding would still be advantagous for best accuracy, pillars are not needed
for bedding.

But it may shoot well without it.

Tikka's have many advantages over other options, it should shoot very well.

You did not make a bad choice in actions. My Tikka's are my favorites.
I have one in a T-4A with the CDI DBM. I thought I would receive pillars(not installed) with the stock, but they did not come. I was in a hurry to get it together so I just bedded it without the pillars.

I've seen no problems not having the pillars.

Did you bed it yourself or have a gunsmith do it? I've never bedded anything before so I'd be too scared to try and do it myself. With the Tikka's strange lug is it something that any local gunsmith could do or would I need to send it to someone "in the know"?

Nothing to be scared about in bedding a Tikka, however the lug has to be handled differently to say a Rem 700.

I found some suitable bar stock section (ground flat stock to the exact width to fit the lug recess of the action) and bedded that into the stock. Its come out well and because Tikka actions are extremely true (for a factory action) I've used the same bedded stock on all of my Tikka's with great results.

Some good info here
