My friend has put a suppressor on his AR platform and informed me that it is leaving large amounts of burnt powder residue in his gas system and upper receiver. Is this normal fouling for a gas system with a can? I have only used a suppressor on bolt rifles and was unable to give him any feedback from my own experience.

I don't know how a PRI gasbuster is going to help??? Permatex does the same job but I am not certain it has anything to do w/ fouling! All of that stuff has to go somewhere. Beware of the piston crowd!

The gasbuster allows extra gas to flow out of a hole in the charging handle. I know a few people that run them to prevent blowback into the face. It was just a suggestion.

Ya supressed is filthy, like was stated, the gas buster will help from getting gas in your eyes, but it doesnt make them run any cleaner. they still get all kinds of black crap everywhere in the chamber, upper receiver etc. piston is nice on supressed AR's.

shoot half a mag, drop it and look at the rounds stacked in the mag and you'll see just how much blowback there is. I have a little 5.56 can and shit blows all in the chamber and magazine.

Yep. Its really a hassle for reloading. If cases are not tumbled shortly after firing, mine seem to corrode to the point of uselesness. It will be a cold day in hell before I give up my supressor though.

Re: Fouling from Can on AR Platform

Just like the others have stated, the suppressed AR platform is very dirty. I have not had any failures of anykind associated with the fouled up action. However, I take the time to thoroughly clean the action/BCG after each session. Futhermore, I run some bore cleaner down the gas tube and let it sit for a few minutes then use some compressed air to blow down the tube. It works fine for me. Sorry for the spelling.
