Found a good load for my Savage model 12FCV. Now I just need some help on my velocity calcs. Load is a 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint Boat Tail over 37.8gr of RL15 and a Winchester LR primer OAL 2.35". 45 degrees, 500ft elevation, 3 o'clock wind 5-8mph
When doing my workup 37.5 grains gave me 3956fps over a chronograph and 38.0 gave me 4021fps. I settled on 37.8, hoping to hit 4000fps but not give up too much accuracy. Groups started to fall apart at 38.5gr. When I run this target through Vortex's LRBC program I get a velocity of 4032fps. My drop at 305 yards(measured) was 7.12 inches the G1 BC that Nosler gives for the bullet is 0.221. I tried to shoot at 425 yards but ran out of paper and didn't want to adjust my 100yd zero till I had some hard info.
Edit: I forgot the point. Does the velocity from the software seem right? Its faster than the heavier load over the chronograph. Or is the BC by Nosler not quite right?
