I run a vintage Lyman 48 peep sight on the back of my Winchester Model 70.

With the scope mounted my want has been to find a "slide blank" so that I can remove the peep slide and than fill the slide dovetail with the blank so the base can remain on the rifle with all its internals protected. Mostly for me its an aesthetic thing as the slide blank will make for a cleaner appearance.

With a Unertl on the Model 70 this is kind of necessary as the height of the peep could interfere with teh travel of the scope in the external mounts.

I only knew "slide blanks" existed because a friend of mine owns a Springfield 03 with a Lyman sight running a Noske scope and his Lyman sight did not come with the actual peep slide, he only has a blank, the long 100 minute scale blank.

The blanks are very rare as I have been looking for a while. In that time Ive never even seen a 60 minute sized blank. I only guessed they existed.

I think I may have struck gold during my convalesence.....

So this one is marked 48FN but Im guessing it should work fine on a 48WS. Orientation of the base is the same (left side of rifle) only thing I may need to do is some light stoning on the dovetail of the blank.

I couldnt be happier than if I got a book of gift certificates for Handies at Robert Kraft's favorite massage parlor.

Best thing was when I saw it I messaged the guy asking if he knew whether or not it would fit a 48W.

    He didnt know.

So I asked if he would sell it now for $25.

He said he would let it ride on the auction.

    I think I got it for $23.

Perhaps Im careless with my money but I put in a max bid of $100.

I thought for sure there would be a scramble to buy because these are rare.

Guess Im the only person seeking one.

Someone with a mill could turn these out pretty quick Im guessing.

Suppose there is no market for them but they are a great accessory for gear geeks.

    Its minty fresh!

It doesnt fit the WS Lyman sight that is currently on my rifle (It would with some stoning) but it does fit the WH sight I plan on installing on the rifle - It was meant to be!
