So this may be sacrilege but thinking about getting a foundation genesis2 stock for 6BR (when parts can be found) and also converting my vudoo into a 1:1 (almost) trainer.

my question is: has anyone cerakoted the stocks, yes they are beautiful the way they are but I hate the look of grandpa’s wood grain rifle. But like the stock feel/weight/ergo

I've seen some recent Foundations where they are experimenting with different stain options. All grey, all black. They looked cool.

Give John-Kyle a call and see what he can work up for you, I bet it would be nicer than cerakote.

I don't like the faux-wood look of most of the Foundations at all either... but there's a pic of a "limited edition black" one on Altus' site and man it's sick.

I'd call Foundation and see what they can do.

I've only done one wood stock w/ Cerakote.
Probably wouldn't do it again, I don't see wood as being an optimal surface for that coating.
I Cerakote less than most here prolly, more than some- couple of jobs once a week or so. I love the stuff on metal in particular, and hard fiberglass stocks. Not so much for polymers and wood as there's other options that'll hold up just as well on softer surfaces IMO and don't need a heat cure.

You wanna see the woodgrain? Most don't when they paint a wood stock. Cerakote doesn't hide shit, it's a mil or two thick.

The big attraction is it's durability- but what's that worth with a wood stock that'll dent and ding up if you bang it against a rock or bench?
Nothin....

I like Brownell's Acra-Glass, epoxy spray topcoat. Seals the grain, then overcoat with whatever you choose.
Might even look into dipping, I've got a wood stock I want to do with it and should work well over the epoxy.

OOOOKKKK...
Sure sounded like it, don't know a thing about it. Guess poster in #5 didn't know either...

So what's "not wood", but allows wood stain to penetrate?
Foundation stocks are not wood OR stained. They are constructed from a extremely dense composite that is made with layers of material and resin put together with heat and tremendous pressure. The color comes from the resin, so the color is through the entire stock.

It’s called micarta or it’s most like micarta it’s machined from a solid block of sheets and resin hydraulically and heat pressed together basically
