Im about to order a 28" or 30" long 308 barrel for Berger 185 juggernauts.

What no turn chamber and freebore should I request to use all of a 2.95" magazine?

Lapua brass for quality or Winchester for capacity?

Hot loads are planned. H4895?, varget?, Re16? Even 8208xbr is an option.

My best results with juggs in that oal have come with a 2013 FTR reamer. No turn on the neck and .170 FB. Allows juggs to be seated as long as possible for extra case capacity. Always ran varget for the temp stability and lot to lot consistency(not as good lately) and wincester brass gives an extra half grain capacity over lapua. If running really hot loads I would suggest lapua palma small primer brass. It will take top end loads and resist loose primer pockets like a champ. The small primer lapua has same capacity as wincester brass, where the large primer lapua is half grain less.

With this freebore you will be jumping a country mile with factory loads or standard 2.800 loads. It does allow you to get max velocity with the juggs and is very polular for the 200 hybrids, 200/20x bullets seated out long.

Also see your from MS, Dixie Precision in your area should have that reamer and several variants in house. Alton is a great guy and does excellent work, if you dont have someone in mind I would recommend him.

Thank you so much. I already have a Smith but I might give him a call just to chat

Wait I just found this via Google.

"I currently using 2013 US-FTR chamber (.170" fb). Most shooter recommend this chamber suitable for 185 juggernaut.

I found that 185 Juggernaunt will touch land @ COAL 3.040"

Then if start with .020" jump coal will be 3.020"

THIS WILL NOT WORK. I need the rounds to fit in a 2.95" / 2.96" magazine? So I should need about a .080" freebore.

Also seeing a lot of .340" necks. I don't see .343" as any different though.

So with you COAL jammed of 2.914” – 2.140” BASE TO LEAD for your Tac Match reamer = 0.774” of Juggernaut in front of the lead.

The US FTR reamer has 2.232” BASE TO LEAD + 0.774” of Juggernaut in front = 3.006” and WAY too long for my 2.95/2.96” magazines.

It looks like the 308 Winchester Tactical Match reamer is what I want. 2.140” BASE TO LEAD, 0.098” freebore.
I would want nothing shorter, But 0.020” more freebore would hurt nothing and still give some time for the throat to grow, so 2.160” BASE TO LEAD, 0.118” freebore if I can find it.
