A wonderful person lost his life for me and our country.

Gunnery Sergeant Ralph Pate Jr 29

Funeral is at Mullins High School in Mullins SC at 3:00pm today. Westboro Baptist Church is gathering to protest. I understand they might be protected by the 1st amendment, but this is very disrespectful to my friend, who protects their rights!

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

Recently, up in Rankin County, MS there was a service for a KIA. By report all the cars in Motel parking lots in the area that had Kansas tags had a pickup truck parked behind them. When they called the police it took so much time for them to get there that the service was over. At another one, upstate, my friend who rides with the Honor Guard motorcycles was approached by a local LEO who confided to him, "We know you guys know how to take care of any trouble so we'll just stay out of the way." Don't mess with Mississippi. JMHO

Becasue they are brain dead and retarded.

Seriously though, go read about these nut jobs at "Westboro Baptist Church", they are literally ALL batshit fucking insane. Every one of them. And that is not even an exaggeration either.

They believe all other religions (including every other form of Cristianity other than theirs, in which they are the only church belonging to "their" religion) and races are evil demons.

They also believe, quite literally, that Obama is in league with Pope Benedict and Satan (as the "unholy trinity") and is the antichrist.

These are the exact type of people that should be locked up in a padded room, with the key thrown away, and be forgotten about forever. Fuckin loonies...

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Having them show up at such a personal time, being able to do what they do, is only possible because of the sacrifices others have made.

They are the Moron in "Oxymoron."

I hope these people were there also.
http://www.patriotguard.org/

I read a story last year of them going to a town to protest.
KS plates were found at a local motel.
4-WD trucks were found illegaly parked, blocking vehicles.
Cops were getting ready to honor local guy, so slow to respond
to a minor parking violation.
When they did and called for tow trucks, they were all on calls.
Tow trucks showed up after the service to a no call.

Hope all went well in regards to them today.

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

Ahh, now I understand what happened with the trucks and blocking of vehicles with KS plates. Great organization there. thanks for the link. The people protesting and interrupting services are so wrong, good to know that there are folks out there counter acting/shutting down what they are doing.

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

When I saw the OP I didn't even see FNP'S response.

We are lucky and greatful that we have been able to talk to and give our Buddies a hug when they came home.

If it ever happened around here they might have "Honey Wagons" parked behind them.

Put a few big rigs in the procession to take up space.

Bro spent three days cleaning excavator and lowboy for his Boss'es funeral.
He followed the hearse.
They led and pulled over to let us in.

Bro didn't pull a leaf or break a branch.
That rig shouldn't have fit in there.

They as a church spew hatered, as we show Honor.

"Congregation breeds stupidity"

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

Well there where others there also to meet westboro baptist. Turns out they didn't protest. Law enforcement in Mullins SC would only let them protest in a designated area, and it was a long way away. The Patriot Guard Riders, where there. A big thanks goes out to them, for trying to keep respect and honor at these funerals that westboro threatens to protest.

Heres a news article of what happened today http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/15037268/f...ithout-incident

Sorry for your/our loss of another soldier.

They aren't protesting anything.....
They are just informing us that God is letting Marines die
because we allow gays to live in our country.....
(they really hate gays)

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

Their (battsh*t loonball) theory is that American Soldiers are being killed by God because of America's tolerance for homosexuality and other things they are opposed to.

Their protected right to protest is... protected.

My personal opinion is that they are the epitome of the type of hate speech that is unprotected and they should have been shut down. But since I am just a lowly beat cop not a Supreme Court Justice... I don't get a say.

But you would find most of us on the thin blue line hard-pressed to go out of our way to protect the protected BS spewed by the WBC. But the law of the land is the law of the land.

IMHO, to use the funerals of those who made the ultimate sacrifice as a focal point to promote their brand of lunacy is just plain sick.

Glad to hear that the SC funeral was conducted w. dignity and I am glad to hear that the family was protected from these nuts.

In Condolences,

Sirhr

PS: I love the Patriot Riders. My kind of Americans.

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

Glad to hear the day went as it was meant to be.
Family and freinds paying respect to a lost loved one.

Talked to a buddy, who just got back, about your situation this morning.
He told a story about what these Guy's did escorting them off.

We have a plan if they ever show up around here.

Thoughts and Prayers.

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

I think they are the same group that Howard Stern got PO'd
about years ago.
He called them the "God hates fags people".
Made no sense then, Still doesn't today.
Most of them are lawyers!

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

You just have to remember their whole gig is to get someone to interfere with their "rights" so they can sue.
They have made a good life out of it.

A real church, would have respect for ceremonies and funerals. Real Christians pray for and respect our men and woman in the military. They are worthless! Real Christians pray for sinners, not spread hate. Your right they are a scam! They know emotions are high at these funerals, and they want someone to violate there rights, so they can sue!

http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/profiles/fred-phelps

Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. (born November 13, 1929) is an American pastor heading the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), an independent Baptist church based in Topeka, Kansas. Phelps is a disbarred lawyer, founder of the Phelps Chartered law firm, a past civil rights activist in Kansas.
Phelps's followers frequently picket various events, such as military funerals, gay pride gatherings, high-profile political gatherings, university commencement ceremonies, performances of The Laramie Project, mainstream Christian gatherings and concerts with which he had no affiliation, arguing it is their sacred duty to warn others of God's anger.
In response to Phelps' protests at military funerals, President George W. Bush signed the Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act into law in May 2006,[1] and, in April 2007, Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius signed into law a bill establishing a 150-foot no-picketing buffer zone around funerals.[2]
He is known for the slogans that he and his ministry use against people he deems sinful; his church is built around a core of anti-homosexual theology, with many of their activities stemming from the slogan "God hates fags", which is also the name of the group's main website.[3] Gay rights supporters have denounced him as a producer of anti-gay propaganda and violence-inspiring hate speech.[4] The church is considered by and monitored as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center.-Wikipedia.

Difficult for me to understand how a majority of Supreme Court jurists aren't bright enough to fashion an exception to the Free Speech clause restricting Phelps' crud so a heart-broken mother might grieve peaceably at the graveside service of her child she carried in her and raised.

Phelps is the same one who lead a group and travelled to Laramie to protest at the funeral of 104 lb college student who was beaten to death with a handgun, hanged on a rail fence in below-freezing temperature overnight by two men because he was gay. But friends of Matthew Shepard encircled the graveside with sheets held spanned like angles in an unbroken circle that Phelp's filth was unable to penetrate so the family could bury their son. The officer who first responded testified his face was caked with dirt and blood except where tears had washed down.

Re: Funeral Westboro Baptist Protest In SC

These nutjobs pretty much give christianity a bad name.
Recently, at 2 military funerals in Platte City and Harrisonville MO the locals pretty much denied them access to anything within 1/2 mile of the funeral homes and cemetaries. Then ran them out of town.
Eventually, these fruitcakes will try their act in the wrong (or right) place and somebody will end up dead or seriously injured. I think this nearly happened in MS earlier this year.
