When Easy company faced any challenge - especially training with other branches - they had no problems.
He was a dick but there is something to sweating during training to have it easier in the real fight

In the original book by historian Stephen Ambrose, this point was made and several of the officer interviewed agreed that even though Sobol was a martinet and a horrible field leader, his discipline and his role as the “enemy”‘helped make Easy what it was.
Sobol never recovered from his rejection. After the war he committed suicide. His family still blames members of Easy.

A former roommate of mine had a couple of cats that was like that. When you got the vacuum out to do the house, the cats will get in your way... would not leave you alone until you vacuumed them
he attempted suicide in 1970 and died in 1987. That is a pretty shitty suicide. Although his "attempt" did basically cause his death, it sure as hell wasn't a fast death.
