Future 6.5x47 Lapua Build Ideas?

I'm thinking about a 6.5x47 Lapua Build in the very near future. I will probably create this rifle in stages.

Is it feasible to get a new Remington VLS .308 SA and then start building up with the other parts while shooting the crap out of the barrel, or should I get something like the Rem 5R.

Is the VLS a good donor action? Or should I use something else. I've tried to search for 6.5x47 Lapua in the search bar and in google. I mainly got FS brass and Zak Smiths article about round comparisons.

Thanks for the help

I am currently shooting a 6.5x47L, and its a fine round, but when rebarreling comes time, I am rechabering to 6.5 Creedmore.

I would look at that case if you like the numbers on the Lapua round. Same preformance, less pressure, with a higher velocity potential. Nearly identicle charges, and factory Match ammo is available.

VLS is fine. If your after the action only, there is no differance between the VLS and 5r, other than stainless.

Thats why I jumped on the wagon. Again, check out that 6.5 Creedmore.

One thing to consider is that the 6.5x47L uses small rifle primers. You may want to get your firing pin bushed if you plan on running that caliber in a standard .308 action.

Re: Future 6.5x47 Lapua Build Ideas?

My suggestion because this is what I am going to do. I have a Savage F-class in 6.5x284. This is going to become a 6.5x47 or a switch barrel since I just had a Kreger 6.5284 put on it prior to the Nationals.
I am having Accuracy one build me a dedicated 6.5x284 on a Panda F-Class Action with a Bartlein barrel. So I will use the Savage for certain matches till I burn the barrel up and save the one being built for Nationals, Regional or State Championship once I get a load figured out. Then the Savage will become a 600 yd rifle along with my 6BR. But in 6.5x47 and like I said a switch for a 6.5x55 for 1K.
Still in your case if you want to use it for a tactical rifle the Savage F-class action has the barrel nut and no matter what people say with a good barrel they shoot fine. After I got rid of the POS Savage barrel and put the Kreiger on My POA came down 10moa and I got my windage almost back to center. Plus the rifle started shooting in the X-ring instead of the 10 and 9.
My other Savage which is a 6 BR I shot in the Hathcock match. I got a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock From Shooters Discount and it was shooting flawless till I messed up and missed the last shot completely. That's what happens when you shoot with a trigger that goes off if you sneeze, great for F-open where you just push the gun back in position.
So check out a Savage Action I know your stock choice is limited but McMillan's does make them and some other places.

Re: Future 6.5x47 Lapua Build Ideas?

One reason I'm jumping on the 6.5x47L is for the lapua brass. Seems like the 6.5 Creedmore is only available in Hornady brass.

Does the creedmore give you better barrel life? As of now I'm leaning towards the Lapua due to better components i guess.

Only thing I wanted to know about the actions are about the quality I guess. I talked to Mike R. @ Tacops a year or two back about his rifles and he said some of the SPS actions aren't as good as per say a VLS or a 5R

Any other method of getting around that? Any gunsmith can do that right? It's just there isn't any real gunsmith around here I would trust working on my rifle :X

either one of these your gonna be stuck with a single source of brass, so your logic is kinda screwed, while Lapua is the gold standard, Hornadeee is no bag of crap, I would go with the Creedmore over the Lapua for the simple fact that loaded ammo is cheap, the load is printed on the box, Hornadeee Dies are a perfect match to there brass and priced well, and IMHO your on the ragged edge with a small rifle primer.

Re: Future 6.5x47 Lapua Build Ideas?

Just to make sure. The 6.5Creedmoor is like the 6.5x47L as they both work on .308 boltface, works in a SA, and will work for mags designed for the .308 (the AICS mags)

And from reading other threads, seems like teh Creedmoor is designed to be a lower pressure round hence longer barrel life?
