Galil .308 Charging Handle

I recently installed a new scope on my .308 Galil and the rings come very close to the knob on the charging handle. The handle is vertical next to the action and is difficult to pull back as I can only get the first two fingers of my right hand on it. Is there any way to modify the handle so that the knob is perpendicular from the action and easier to retract the bolt?

Re: Galil .308 Charging Handle

Maybe use an AK bolt carrier? I have never tried this but I have read that the Galil and AK Bolt carriers are interchangeable for the .223 Galil. Possibly it will also work for a .308. Of course you will have to use the Galil piston on the AK bolt carrier and you may have to drill a hole through the carrier for the retaining pin that holds the piston.

here's a couple of threads on AK forums:
