Photos GALIPOLI

Re: GALIPOLI

Wow, rarely seen someone go to that far an extreme using natural vegetation. Looks like they are in a heavily vegetated area but he still got caught.

Re: GALIPOLI

The caption says he is a captured Turkish sniper. The soldiers are clearly British or perhaps Australian - both were at Gallipoli.

Re: GALIPOLI

I'd say these are ANZACS ( Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) judging by the hats...and the facial features of the guy wearing the bush look very Turkish compared to the Aussies/Kiwis

Re: GALIPOLI

This same photo appears in Gallipoli Sniper, John Hamilton's biography of famed Aussie sniper Billy Sing (thanks tikkat). The caption states,in part "Charles Bean dismissed this picture as being a fake taken on island of Imbros, claiming that the Australians were from a field battery and that the Turk was a prisoner dressed up for the occasion". Charles Bean was the author of The Story of ANZAC.
