I just got this back from GAP today. After talking with George last night I was astonished that he got it out in time to get it here today. Although I did request over night shipping

.

I have read post after post about the glory that the 18" barreled 260 Rem can hold. So I sent him my Crusader and asked him to cut it down and thread it for my YHM QD mount. Well it looks great! Cant wait to get out and put some rounds thru it and see how it shoots at 100, 600, and 1000 yards. Ill post the groups after I can get out there. Im thinking about taking off work tmw....

I know people will ask - the turn around time to get it done in... 6 days!

George's Customer Service is outstanding. He called me himself to get the details worked out and took my billing info. Another great project from GA Precision. Thanks guys!

Re: GAP Crusader 260 Rem - 18" bbl

Well, I skipped my final meeting of the day to take it out and shoot about 30 rounds. All I had time for as the light was leaving my quickly...

I shot it at 600 yards with just a quick boresight and fine tuned it on the metal plate thats hanging out there on my farm. its a 14"x14" 3/4 thick steel plate on chains. I had a couple flyers as I was dialing in but managed to put my last 10 shots all in a 2" circle, maybe a little more. 5 of those shots were a little over an inch. maybe at 1.2"

The potential of the 260 Rem bolt rifle is absurd. You could really do some great things and play with a custom load (excited to see what Frank and Chad come up with for the SH build). Im glad I did this to my Crusader. Its a real shooter.

Mild recoil and with the suppressor on.... sound about like a paintball gun!

Thanks guys!

Considerably less noise then a 308. If they only made a designated 260 can.... it would be a beautiful thing! I might have to find a recipe to load some subsonic 260, that would be the tits!

Shouldnt matter if its fluted.... Have him cut it and blend a muzzle break in. It will be fine!

I am going to agree with LL. Im thinking the 260 at 20" and shorter are going to be a new craze. In an urban environment this setup would be ideal. Low noise, barely any recoil and dead nuts accuracy out to 1000 yards. quite the impressive rig I must say.

Thanks for the inspiration Frank!

Im going to contact Chad and see about some custom ammo as well.

Would like to get a little more accuracy and speed then this Remington ammo I have laying around. But even with the factory ammo this rifle is sub moa accurate. found that out yesterday. will do more shooting on Sunday with it.

Re: GAP Crusader 260 Rem - 18" bbl

What is the twist of your bbl? Have you figured your velocity yet? What gr bullet are you using? A 260 with a 20" bbl would make one helluva custom deer rifle. Very nice rifle?

Re: GAP Crusader 260 Rem - 18" bbl

I'm no mind reader, but I have a feeling somebody (i.e. kyshooter338) is going to be getting in on the upcomming Hide group buy. Looks very promising.

Great looking stick, Adam, but from what I have seen, I wouldn't expect anything less from you and the guys at GAP.

Take Care

Re: GAP Crusader 260 Rem - 18" bbl

have not checked velocity yet.... no chrono
Im just using some Remington low recoil 260 right now. nothing special. waiting to do a custom load with Chad at Dallas reloads.

Somewhat off topic, but where did you get the extended base for the Templar action? I have a Crusader (6.5CM) on order and am very concerned about the non-extended base all the pictures show.

The original Templar actions were built around the Defiance Rebel action that had the non integral base.
The new Tempar's (Templar 2) is built off the Deviant platform and has the integral rail. That's why you see the difference

The first Crusaders were made with Lawton Actions if I'm not mistaken, called the GAP 7000, although they may have switched to a Defiance by 2009.

That is one "outstanding" rifle. Every time I convince myself to go with a 6.5 CM you guys post a picture of a great looking .260 you just got (or got back in your case) and rave about how accurate it is...well, it just makes a fellow confused. More pictures would really be nice.

Surely in 5 years you figured out a velocity for 140's? Ha ha!

I took that barrel off after about 4 months of shooting it. I was robbing the caliber of performance. If you want a short handy rifle that will still group tight and get around 2700 then you can always go 18-20" barrel. I dont drop below 24" now because I want the downrange performance of the caliber. Just my two cents.

When I read the thread title, An 18" .260?? I thought WTF, why would you do that ? Then saw that it was a 5 Y/O post. Glad you found the post and updated it.
