gas system compatibility

I am considering an Armalite rifle length gas system (Super SASS) and gas port on a custom barrel; this rifle will have a DPMS pattern barrel extension, bolt, upper receiver and carrier. I am assuming the carrier key location is the same for both patterns, but wanted to make sure. I am reading that the Armalite carrier key/gas system is higher/longer than an AR15 gas system, and I was under the impression that the DPMS gas system uses the same gas blocks/tubes as the AR15, which would seem to indicate a lower height than the Armalite if this is the case. Wondering if anyone has ever done this or knows for sure what is required?

Thanks!

Re: gas system compatibility

Outside of a piston AR, I have never heard of an AR with a different carrier key location. What is different is the length of the gas tube and where the gas hole is in the barrel.

If it really is different with armalite, i'd love to know myself. My best is that it's the same.

Re: gas system compatibility

I've crossed parts over between Armalite, RRA, and DPMS....no issues with the carriers at all. Some forearms may have a different length by a minimal amount, but the gas tubes are all the same. Only one I've seen that was different was the AR10 gas tube from Armalite, it's about .200" or maybe an even 1/4" longer than a standard length AR15 tube and the DPMS LR308 gas tubes.
