just built this gun. Plan on shooting it tomorrow. The gas tube is arely tight fit. Everything is aligned. When I slam the bolt shut it will not open without a light hammer. The tube was tight in the gas key without any other parts put together. Just the key and the tube. Will it break in with h some shooting ? This is my first large frame at build. I have built ar15,s with no issues. Thanks

If it was sticky prior to full assembly... I, personally, would consider trying a replacement gas tube.... and or double / triple check your assembly.

Something is amiss.... I can't help but think you have too long of a gas tube, and it is wedging in the gas key. ( from your description )

I would NOT shot the rifle until your issue is resolved.... nothing good could come from your issue if it was fired.

Could you please give us specific details on the parts, and .308 AR Type ? .... Armalite ? DPMS ? etc

Double check there are no "burrs" or such, in the gas key "hole" and I might polish the gas tube OD.

Double checked everything and measured compared to my mid gas tub. Did some sanding and we are good to go!

    What parts did you use?

    Receivers
    BCG
    Barrel
Gas tube length (ArmaLite vs DPMS/AR15 length)
    Gas block

The heights can be different, lengths are different depending on where you got the gas tube, and gas block height to gas tube hole height can be off enough with certain combos to cause a lot of binding when you try to approach a large frame build like an AR15. Totally different ballgame with the large frames.

As an example, just within DPMS LR308/AP4 receivers, there are 3 different upper receiver rail heights, and that does not include the GII.

Gas system lengths are different between ArmaLite and DPMS, and some of the barrel manufacturers use DPMS pattern extensions but with ArmaLite length gas systems, advertising their barrels as DPMS compatible for receiver fit (both will fit across the receivers, but gas systems are different lengths).

If you use an ArmaLite tube on a standard gas system length port location, the tube will penetrate into the carrier key too much and lock up the gun.

What was the OD of the flange on the gas tube before you sanded that critical part?

Are there any burrs inside the carrier key?
