I am using the above on my GAP .308. Recently at the range a fellow shooter opined that the quickmount reduces accuracy well over 1 moa. I noticed none of the competitors are using Gemtech, albeit on their website they show the US team using it along with Bryan L and others at over a mile. Any opinions please?

I have a Gemtech Sandstorm and to my knowledge its a Direct thread suppressor. I think this model has been discontinued and replaced with some other model.

I have the Quicksand (the bi lug QD mount version of the Sandstorm which is direct thread). Yes- stay away. Its a crapshoot on every rifle. Some it does not degrade the accuracy at all and others is totally trashes by a heck of a lot more than 1 MOA. Try like 5 MOA. Its a pain in the ass to figure out what rifles its good on and Ive never figured out why. Like some ARs its fine and others no. Some bolt guns but not others.

Ive heard from others that they got Gemtech to convert it to direct thread to fix it but when I asked Gemtech they denied any such thing. I found a company that would do it but decided just to use it on the couple rifles I know its OK on.

The Gemtech system for QD, Quickmount whatever you want to call it does not work.

If you get a Gemtech stick to the most basic, direct thread models.

I have the Sandstorm which is the direct thread version, and it has gotten better over the years, in other words, the more I shoot it and carbon it up, the better it works.

It took about 500 rounds to remove a rather large first-round pop with that can.

Frank, I remember in a few podcasts where you asked why people have to have their gear validated. Your answer above is one of the reasons, we don't want to buy shit gear and would rather have advice from someone that plays with all of it.

we try to offer best practice advice

We get a lot of questions about a lot of brands and sometimes there is just not enough information out there. so in those cases we recommend you stick to recognized brands with a proven track record.

that way it is easy to discuss, vs something nobody touched before.

With a Gemtech, who has been around a long time with a lot of different products on the market, we tend to find, the mounts are an issue for accuracy. So using only the direct mount versions we eliminate as much of the problem as possible
