Okay, so it's likely been discussed here before as it came out in '08, but I saw it for the first time on Amazon's HBO collection. A search on here returned no results for "Generation Kill", the name of the mini-series.

It follows Marine recon grunts as they get clusterfucked by their chain of command, the stupidity orders and fragos, gung-ho officers ready to kiss general ass and shove troops in to battle without proper planning... You get it, the "real" military!

The camaraderie they portrayed, the jokes and emotions, the way grunts deal with this shit in general, they really nailed IMO, and in such a was as it will appeal to most all combat arms, Army and Marine alike. If you haven't seen this, you should. It's rare a war film or series will have most details down (for the most part) and focus on the macabre jokes and relationship between these kinds of soldiers. The toll it takes, the rush they get only to be let down time and again by chain of command (sound familiar?).

Anyway, I binge watched this yesterday, I was hooked. Way better IMO than many feature length Hollywood big budget war films. It even had a Kubrik-esque feel to it --not copying the master, just paying homage in a way.

Army or Marine, you need to see this. If you have Amazon Prime, it's free along with other perks (Prime is a good deal if you use Amazon often enough for used and new purchases).

Just thought I'd bring it up. I really thought they nailed the relationship that soldiers have in the field. And the apparent lack of supplies the Marines have ALWAYS had to deal with, that wasn't overlooked either. But I didn't get the guy using the (Raptor 6x?) NV scope on his rifle DAY AND NIGHT. But whatever.

Definitely worth a look if you haven't seen this yet.
