well i shot my first 44 magnum about 3 weeks ago and , well its a love story now lol . it was a tarus m44 8.3" barrel blued . well i found one at our local trading company same model for 535$. begged my dad and today we went and put it on laway probably get it out somtime in december . i plan on using it for hogs and deer. i like it since it recoils less than my dads 40 s&w . i dont like semi auto because their jump so high but have less power . i cant use it for a ccw since im about 18 but i can atleast hunt with it . going to try some 300 gr hornady xtp and 225 ftx. and might try some ultra mac cowboy loads . i love shooting a revolver funnest gun i ever fired . also like black friday now to . i went up town just to do some preshopping didnt think id end up with anything lol

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

yeah but then you have to clean out the powder/lead ring but noene around here heard much less sales 44 special ammo . one reasons why i wanted a 44 mag becuase every gun store has atleast 1 box im tired of ordering ammo off the internet for my 10 ga which was my favorite gun now that 44 is . hell sincew it has almost no recoil i dont see the point of the weaker 357 magnum i mean recoil is why moast people stay away from ceratian calibers

really? 44 should be about double the 40 Short and Weak explain this one to me...

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

my guess is the weight of the slide coming back. Makes the gun have more muzzle jump , it's a hi-point has a really heavy slide ugly gun to . i dont think the 40 is short and weak well not with the fmj 180 grain .plus the taurus has 8 ports

*facepalm*

The 40 is short and weak compared to 10mm and downright sissy compared to a real 44 load.

+1, that shit makes my head hurt. Spellcheck, paragraphs, punctuation, basic grammar skills... Missing in action.

Look at this clever guy! Can't post in the FS forum yet, so he lists that shizzle in his signature! Lot's of WIN going on in this thread.

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

s&w is to expesive right now plus their not ported and have open backstrap grips . ruger stopped making the only good looking revolver they ever had the srh 480 ruger 9.5" . i dont care about ccw these guns are for hunting . i think the new taurus are as good as anything else . if they are so bad then why can they handle +p loads and sw cant ? .

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

need a 454

If it's for hunting, might I suggest a 44 Mag Ruger Super BlackHawk 7 1/2" barrel single action with the Bisley frame. (Bisley feals better while holding and aiming.)
This is hard to beat when hunting. It's light weight and easy to pack on a long hunt but still gives you great distance.
I would not hesitate to take a deer at 100 yards as long as I'm very steady while aiming.
These pistols are built like a tank but don't weigh much and are cheaper priced to boot. I haved used two different Super BlackHawks for 30 years and still have both of them.

You don't need 454, 480, or 500 unless you want to pay thru the nose for ammo.
You don't need ports in the barrel to make you a better shooter.
I like more power and I have owned the 500 S&W but really..... Unless you are going into grizzly country would you ever really need something greater than a 44 mag???

Alright 416Barret...you are making the GA folk look stupid with the lack of proper grammar. Get it together.

As for your questions, skip the Taurus. The customer service is lacking.

Good catch.

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk is a great hunting revolver IMHO... Whether it be in 454 or 44, it doesn't matter... I am partial to the 44 because it's what I own and I love shooting it, even with full power loads I don't find the recoil abusive like the 454 ha...

Re: getting a 44 mag for xmas

I usually just look around here, but I have to comment on this one.

First, PLEASE work on your grammar and punctuation. I was born in Georgia, and it's a matter of pride for me to believe that we all had decent schooling.

Second, in agreement with what most have said, save up a bit more and get a Smith or a Ruger. It's not that the Taurus is a bad weapon (Though the fit, finish, and trigger do not match up to the other two brands mentioned above), it's just that if you get around other bigger-bore pistol people, the best you can possibly hope for is sympathy. The Super Redhawk IS made a lot heavier than the Smith 29, but why do you even need it, especially if you're buying your ammo off the shelf?

That brings me to my final point. START RELOADING! Get yourself an entry-level Lee anniversary kit and enough to reload 500 rounds, and after you've reloaded those, you will have paid for it at least twice over. That bit of advice goes for whatever you decide to buy.

Regards and Merry Christmas.

Mike

I didn't say it was a 45 Long Colt caliber, I said 44 Mag on the Bisley framed Super BlackHawk.
You can go 45 LC but 44 mag is more readily available on the shelves.
Here is the exact Bisley model I have.

And I have an old flat top as well.
Good luck with your choices.
