Im looking to buy a new trimmer. I have the RCBS Power Trimmer but dont like the collet thing its constantly leaving scratches on the inside of the neck nomatter how much I adjust it or polish the collets.

Which one is better (im going to purchase) and why?

I googled it and alot of people prefer the Giraud over the Gracey but nobody says why they like one more than the other.

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

I've used both and I prefer the Giraud.

Reasons:

The giraud has bearings instead of bushings.

The giraud case holder system feels, works and looks better.

The giraud doesn't get as hot as the gracey does. Trim 100 rounds on the gracey and you sweat from the heat coming off of that motor. 1000 rounds on the Giraud and it wants to do 1000 more.

Better cutter (debatable) on the Giraud. A nice "VLD" chamfer/ deburr/ trim.

Easier to clean the brass shavings out of the Giraud.

The gracey just seems ghetto compared to the giraud.

The Giraud also seems smoother regarding function.

Trust me, just get the Giraud. haha

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

I have never seen a Gracey so I won't comment on that but I do have a Giraud and it has save me countless hours of trimming brass not to mention sore fingers. I could never go back to anything else. It is that good.

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

Giraud here.

Trimmed 400 .308 cases in one hour the other day. No more sore hands and fingers and each case is perfectly trimmed. Will never trim any other way. As the previous poster mentioned... it really is that good. The machine is a high quality, professional piece of equipment.

Don't know anything about the Gracey. Don't need to know anything about the Gracey. Go with the Giraud.

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

The Giraud is a newer design than the Gracey I believe. I have the Giraud and it is very well thought out and put together. Using a die lock ring (with witness marks) for the case holder makes things a little easier when switching b/t calibers. Even though this "trimmer" is pricey, it has easily paid for itself in terms of giving time back to me from a trimming perspective....Time is money.

So easy even a two year old can do it!

If this didn't sell you on the Giraud I don't know what will...

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

I have a Gracey with Fred Bertelsman's cutting heads, but if I didn't already have it, I would definitely get the Giraud. It's better built and an overall better design.

+1 The Gracey works well though.

Re: Giraud or Gracey Trimmer?

Rob, that's true, in fairness, the Gracey trimmer works very well. By all accounts, Doyle Gracey stands behind his products well also. Another consideration is that the Gracey is quite a bit less expensive than the Giraud trimmer. I would never badmouth the Gracey trimmer, I own and use one myself. I think the Giraud is a more elegant design, but that comes with a higher cost.
