What is the best way to carry a Glock 20 on your pants belt while wearing a backpack hipbelt?

I've read a lot of these threads, seen lots of different ideas, and tried lots myself. Pretty sure I want to stick to the good old fashioned gun on the pants belt though. I have a S&W 500 that I have carried around for hundreds of miles on my belt. The holster drops down away from the belt to give the backpack hip belt a little room to sneak above the gun (see pic below). It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but by the end of the hunting season, I can't even feel that I'm wearing it. I'm really glad Sitka includes suspenders with their timberline pants - work great for helping to hold this 4.5 pound beast up!

That being said, sometimes I would like to cut some weight and I want to get a Glock 20 for this application. I am essentially carrying a rifle on my hip with the 500. The ability to add a weapon light to the G20 is a big plus as well. Both have pros and cons. Anyway... what would be a good setup for carrying the G20 in a similar fashion? Something to offset the holster or to drop it down out of the way of the hipbelt.

I have been considering the Gunfighters INC Ronin with their Micro Aggression Thigh Panel. Part of me is worried that the leg strap will saw my leg off after a bunch of miles, but the salesmen at GFI assured me that it is comfortable and that the leg strap doesn't need to be too tight. I'm just wondering if you guys have any thoughts on this, or know of something better.

I do have one of their chest holsters for another gun. I'm not incredibly thrilled with it. It squeaks like crazy, rubs the daylights out of my neck with the shoulder strap, and restricts my breathing if I have it too tight. That pressure point on your chest isn't the most comfortable thing after about two days either.

I should also mention that I would like a RMR and Surefire light on the gun as well.

I appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I run a safariland dropleg on my Exo Mtn hipbelt, gets it just below the belt line. I run QDS system so I can remove the holster and switch it to a pancake style if my pack is not on.

Does the waist belt on your pack have MOLLE/PALS on it? I'm assuming not.

No. I could attach it to the hipbelt itself, but I often take my backpack off and don't want to be without my weapon.

Hill people gear chest rig with a trigger guard?

May not be the quickest draw but its convenient.

No freaking way would I wear any kind of thigh leg drop holster and try to walk with a pack for any distance.

safariland makes several offsets that will drop the holster below the belt an inch or two but if you have a lot of weight on the hip belt it might get old pretty quick. I used the 1.5” last deployment and it was great but I never strap a hip belt in those conditions so can’t say for sure.

I have a HPG kit bag I’ve used extensively around the yard doing chores and it is awesome. I’ve done some rucking but only four miles at a time and it doesn’t bother me at all for that distance. My favorite part is it keeps the gun super clean and sweat free.

I'm gonna have to side with s2s on this one... Just got my first HPG kit bag a couple weeks ago & I think that might be the ticket for you.

I wish safari land would put out a holster for the g20 w/rmr and light combo. At least their holster finder doesn’t list one for what I am looking for

Check out T5 customs, they design their holsters to be compatible with Safariland mounting systems. Carried one last deployment, great kit.

It seems like there are lots of drop/offset type holsters out there to clear armor etc. Any suggestions on a thin drop/offset piece that won't feel like a tumor under a heavy backpack belt?

I would like the holster to be top quality. Who are some of the best custom makers out there?

Thanks!

I run my G20 in a Gunfighters Inc Kenai with my pack. It gets it off your belt and out of the way of the hip belt. Still easily accessible around the shoulder straps and the breast strap goes above it. I even run it under my bino harness while hunting, but am looking at the razco holster that attaches straight to my bino harness just to streamline a little bit.

MY G20 sits in a Hill people gear heavy recon bag on my chest. Out of the way of everything, If I drop pack i still have my gun and emergency items and super comfortable to wear.

Putting a holster on your hip is stupid, as your pack waist belt will most likely cover it up.

Putting a holster on your waist belt/pack is stupid, as when you drop pack you wont have your gun.

Chest Bag is the way to go.

It’s a little old school, but I really like the tanker style holsters from ElPaso Saddelry for big guns, in addition to the Safariland previously mentioned. It is easily worn with a pack. I have one coming right now for a 20/21.
