I know that alot of you guys are military and law enforcement, so I would like your opinion on a new duty gun. I am looking at the glock 22 vs the Springfield XDM in 40 cal. I know that 80% of law enforcement and military carry Glock. They are proven to perform under any and all conditions. I have big hands (im 6'5) and have tried differint grips on the glocks Gen 4 and it still dont fit my hands good. I picked up a XDM and I fell in love with it. I like the extra pressure safety on the grip and the way it fit my hand. Also I like that it is thinner than the glock. But HOW does this XDM perform for what I need it for? My life depends on my weapon. I also know this is a touchey subject for alot of guys, Glock lovers hate Springfield and Springfield guys hate glock with this being said please be biast when making comments. go to a range and shoot both. the only safety I need is my finger. I hate the old XD's trigger. mine was very mushy. idk about the xdm. I carry a g19 for work. and a g33 for play. to me its not a pistol but a tool. it always works. but in the end really its all preference
Money is not the issue, I took both guns apart and they look identical inside except for the pressure safety on the XDM. and I see that most guys do own both that pistol shooters. I have shot the glock 22 many times and it is a really nice gun.. I just do not know anyone with the XDM. May have to go to a gun store with a range to see.
Have had both, would trust either. I'm of the opinion that they are equal, except that Glock has more support. If you have ready access to all of the support items that you need (holsters, mags, maybe sights), go with your preference. Any decent shooter should have a very easy time being accurate with either of them.
I prefer the XDM and have sold many of our shooters on the XD series pistol. The grip angle is different, it has the loaded cartridge indicator and a grip safety which are some of the differences between the Springfield and a Glock. I also armor the pistols and the Glock is easier to work on.
Glock solicits and markets very strongly to LE and pursued LE since early in their existence. This is one of the reasons LE is such a stronghold for Glock.

Having shot both, I personally shoot the Glock consistently better. At first it was group size was smaller although the Glock pointed high for me just like most people. Nothing against Springfield at all. I would really say you need to fire both. Things like this are so subjective to instincts, fit of the gun to you etc and the quality of most, not all, pistols discussed is high enough that its primarily a personal choice these days.
I have also shot both, I prefer the XDm. It just fits my hand better and also comes with different backstraps so you can adjust it to fit you better

I have carried Glock's for years until recently switching to H&K. I prefer them over the XD and M&P offerings due to the ergonomics and in my opinion the trigger. There is a no shortage of duty gear and accessories for the Glock as well if you are going to use it as a duty weapon.
Springfield all the way! I have two and love them. Never owned a glock but have shot plenty and the grip angle is to different than everything else I shoot. Both are reliable and you won't go wrong with either of them but I would choose the xdm.

Glocks has the name and the snobs but the grip angle is not natural for most shooters. Its all about what points natural in your hand, not the name on the firearm.
XDs have passed the infamous Glock torture test, so has many other pistols, with ease and if my failing memory is right, surpassed round count by double. This is a moot point.

I had a Glocker at my counter telling a young female not to buy the XDC, it was junk, every XD failed during qualifying, but she liked and said the XDC felt natural pointing and she was buying it and this just sent him into a rage that I had to ask him to leave. Encounters like this happen quite often.
Shoot as many pistols as you can and then you decide what fits your hands natural point of aim that will shoot best for you. Sound like the XDM fits the criteria so I think you know.

I prefer the XDM. It has a better trigger out of the box, higher capacity and fits me better, which leads to better accuracy. Like my H&K to, but it does not share the same point and shoot characteristics for fast shots...must be the grip angle. I also do not care for H&K mag releases.
Late to the party but I figured I would drop in a data-point. The XD's (At least they used to) have a slide that locks depending on the application of the grip-safety. Obviously this is department specific, but doing one-handed / weak-handed malfunction clearance drills can be a challenge in some cases. I suggest you speak to officers in your area and see what pistol qualifications are like.
After that, the only other known kinda issue is the XD mags feed lips can be a little soft so they can spread over time. So you need to watch that.
Other than that, the XD's only other issues in the old days were encapsulated spring mechanisms coming apart and some extractor upgrades. But that was years ago. So if you get a really old one, just check into it.
As for Glock, they aren't perfect either but those issues are more commonly known so no need to rehash here.
In the end, you are responsible to knowing and maintaining your gear.

I carry the Glock 22 as my PD requires we carry it as the issued gun. I also carry a Glock 27 as my backup gun on duty and carry it concealed when off-duty. That being said, if I were allowed to choose I would be carrying an XDM. I used to carry one as my off-duty at my old PD and was tempted to change to the XDM for my duty weapon as well. I shoot the XDM much better simply because I've always had an issue with the feel of the Glock trigger and I tend to not be nearly as smooth on it as I am with other pistols.
Both are good pistols, it comes down to whichever you feel you can shoot best. Whichever one you shoot better will be the "BEST" for you. Shoot them both.

I Own an Glock 22 and my grandfather owns a XD in 40 cal, and I do most of the shooting for him so I have shot at least 500 rounds out of his, but I prefer the glock over the Xd, because the glock is a little slimmer and feels more natural to shoot (FOR ME). Both are good guns, but also with the trigger on the xd it was mushy too. My other complaint with the XD is you can sometime not depress the sear saftey completly if you do not pay attention to you grip.. But like said above all I need for a saftey is my finger.. But I think you need to shoot both and see how you like them... Now I too can complain about the glock, they may not be as purty as the xds, and the sights on the xds are easier for my eyes to grap and focus.. I have really good eye also but something about the OEM Glock sights just dont cut it for me when i do a fast draw.

Glocks have never really tripped my trigger. I went with the sub compact XDm and really glad I did.
Got a xdm 5.25 for pistol stages at rifle comps. I love that freakin pistol!! I did some horse tradin and now i got a xdm 3.8 for carry with the truglo tfo sights. If it was anything but a dutygun id say get a springer precision or powder river trigger kit, on second thought they make a nice crispy trigger with the duty kinda heavy pull. Either way gun is perfect,just needs a trigger kit to be ABSOLUTELY perfect
