Hey all,

I picked up a Glock 17 this weekend at the fun show. It's a Gen 3 with trijicon night sights. I got a great deal on it and talked the guy down because the rear sight is shifted all the way to the right with the sight hanging off the side.

I looked online and saw people tapping the sights with a hammer and tool while others said to buy a $100 sight tool because tapping it would shatter the tritium tubes. Since those tubes are going to be assaulted with thousands and thousands of rounds, I doubt a little tap with a mallet would do anything. However, before I throw caution to the wind, I wanted to get your thoughts.

Should I tap it over? Should I find a local armorer? Or should I buy the tool?

I see you're in Texas; you didn't happen to buy this from Boltripper, did you?

Fair enough, but I find it hard to imagine any Glock would be so far off as to require the rear sight hanging off the side of the slide.

Re: Glock rear night sight problem

You might be surprised how far left some Glocks shoot (and some folks vote) <HA HA

But really Glock is aware that their guns shoot left and they have not fixed the problem which is why I am going to start competing with the XDM or S&W M&P.

Re: Glock rear night sight problem

On a serious note my guess would be that if you are shooting left you are over-gripping the gun with your left hand.

But the Glocks really do shoot more left than any other handgun out of the box.

Re: Glock rear night sight problem

I haven't shot it yet. Work had me driving from Austin to Dallas to Houston and back. I'm taking it out to the range tomorrow with what's left of my .40s&w ammo to shoot through a Sig.

I couldn't find a brass or delrin rod or punches at any Lowe's or Home Depots. I used a thick post card doubled over and sprayed some lube (not the kind that makes your arm tired haha) on the sight and just used a steel punch. No marring. Dead center sight.

@B. Melick - I wouldn't know what Bolttripper looks like, but if he was at the fun show in San Antonio, maybe. I traded in my Taurus 24/7 for the glock. Good gun - great gun actually, but I enjoy aftermarket support.

Re: Glock rear night sight problem

I would take it to T.R. Graham. He the best Glocksmith in the country. He is at all the big Houston and Dallas Gun shows. Try him at 832-695-7192. He was living on south side of Houston, but told me he was moving to Dallas awhile back. He put new sites and did trigger jobs on all my glocks (13 of them). He puts the sights on by taking the slide off the gun, giving you the reciever and having you point it at him over his shoulder. Then he will use a sight tool to put them on. Every one he has done form me was dead on the first time. He does a great trigger job also. He charged me like 10 bucks to put new sights on. Cheap and done right. Can't beat him.

Re: Glock rear night sight problem

Glock shot great! It was dead on with the sights centered. A buddy that carries a Sig 229 in .40 was all over with his and my gun, but I was a smidge high and to the left with both. Definitely, the err was on my part.

My only two complaints were my shells were shooting right on top of my head and the ammo was getting used WAY too quickly!! Aside from those two items, it was a great shooter!

I ended my night with an 80ft slip and slide and pool party.
