I just recantly picked up a older south bend lathe. I want to switch to a cam lock set up for the chuck from the standard 2 1/4 x 8TPI spindle, and add a quick change tool post. I'm new to the south bend set up so forgive my ignorance. Has anyone here made this switch and if so, where did you pick up the spindle adapter? I'v been meaning to give MSC a call and get some info from them but been swamped at work and havn't had time. Just looking for some insight on brands, styles, do's/don'ts. Any insight would help.
Thanks
Donald

Re: going from theaded chuck to cam lock

I think that in order to change to camlock, that you need to pull the whole spindle out of the headstock and replace it with a different one that has a camlock nose on it.
I have seen those parts go through ebay.
It will take a while to find one and you will be bidding against a LOT of people as everyone with an old south bend wants to put a camlock nose on it to use the newer camlock tooling...
