Going to Kentucky for Christmas need crashcourse

We'll be visiting family in Corbin for the christmas holiday (weather permitting) It will be my first time going there. What do I need to know? what are the speed limits like? where is the best kentucky whiskey located? Other than going to the original KFC what else is there to do? Public ranges? etc...

Corvette museum in Bowling Green, the GM Corvette factory has plant tours daily. Jim Beam Distillery in Bardstown, witch includes tastings as well as a gift shop. Heaven Hill Distilleries is also nearby, with their own tours also. Downtown Louisville is the location of the famous Louisville baseball bat factory.
I was in Kentucky a couple of weeks ago. Stayed briefly for five days, so my knowledge of the area is limited, Either way cool place and very friendly people, with awesome food. "Proof" on main street has some incredible steaks although pricey.
I beleive the speed limit on the highway is 70mph.

Only been through Corbin once while driving north on 75. Corbin is a pretty small town, at least what I saw of it. The original KFC is neat (had to go there at my wife's beckoning) but nothing to get too excited about.

Enjoy the peace and quiet, family permitting of course.

KY loves out of state plates. You break it by 5, your ticket will show 15 - 20 over. You fight it you will pay close to a K Note, you let it go uncontested and send the cash, your skinned of $200 - $300 smackers. They drive black or dark blue Crown Vic's with Homeland Defense Circular stickers on the rear side windows and are basically fast undercover blown interceptors.(The last of the Panther V8's I tell ya, Max!)
Dress warm, it's cold and icy between Clarksville TN and Bardstown(Where they make all the Bourbon!) Temps been running in the 30's and lower. You do not want to miss a day in BArdstown buying up your store of Bourbon for the next year, or at least a good bottle just to have, and one to drink.
If you speak 'ya'all' you will do fine. I'm still working on that part, but I get by fine

You don't want to know what a KY plate will get you in TN.......starts with a "F" and rhymes with shucked. That is all I am at liberty to say about the subject. lol

BTW, Switch...you and yours makin it ok down there? We had flooding earlier this year, and it looks like this winter is gonna be a rough one. I think the last time we got a decent snow before Christmas was about 14-15 years ago. Since you are only about an hour away from here, we pretty much get the same weather. You all stay safe, stocked up and warm bro!

I've done some work in Kentucky, great people i love working there and down in tennesee. I havent had a prob with law enforment (yet) and i'm from iowa and drive around 6 or 7 over posted limit and get passed by troopers and county cops so maybe its just depends on certain areas idk. Havent been to any good bars or anything the like while down there yet but im sure good whiskey isnt hard to find.

KB, we good to go down here in the hills. We be on the high ground with a few good neighbors(my favorite being a bearded long haired knife magazine writer and damascus blade maker)
We have some cold, a little wind, doors locked down, a little gluwine and we are happy and warm...until Monday when I get to ride to Nashville VA for an OEF clinic appointment.

I do like the hills round these parts though. Not too darn bad for this Nor-Cal country boy(with a OC back alley city slicker heart)

Good to hear Switch! I wish I liked my neighbors as much.....I have one that has shot a window out of my truck and knifed 2 of my tires over the last 2 months. He is definitely campaigning for a beat down, or worse!

There isn't much around Corbin.
You could hit Cumberland Gap National Historic Park or Big South Fork River and Recreation Area if you're in to a hike of some kind. Daniel Boone National Forest has multiple public ranges. Hit their web site to see the closest one to Corbin.

Louisville is not close.

Lexington is about 70 miles north.

Go to Woodford county for Bourbon distillery tours (closer than Lexington, but probably takes longer to get there because it's mostly back roads).

You can do some small game or varmint hunting in DBNF or BSFRRA if you're not opposed to the out of state license fees.
