Gunsmithing Good Lube for Lever actions

Re: Good Lube for Lever actions

Having taken up a suggestion to use Mobil 1 on my 1911's, I now use it for most of my gats.

Works great and is very cheap compared to 'specialized super scientific' gun lube.

Don't know what levergun you want to slick up, but I find that taking them apart, polishing all the internal and sliding parts, and lightly lubing them with any old thing makes them very slick and smooth.

I'm really fond of Tri-Flow. It smells nice too. It's right in there with Hoppe's No 9 and burning race fuel for favorite aromas.

Actually if you looks at it's specs it is right in there with the best synthetics. I like the little drip bottles with a straw in them to apply it. It's really good on gall prone stainless.

I use pro-gold and triflo silicon grease...the pro gold sticks better. I even use it on my rc helicopter engines to grease the bearings...doesn't break down much.

What I really like about progold is that it's great on stuff like stainless where galling is an issue. On pitted stuff, it will fill the pores as well.

I like a very light coat of white lithium grease on my lever actions. Sticks well and is slicker than greased butter.
