Good rifle transport bag?

I am looking to get some honest opinions on a good bag to transport my rifle from home to the range. I have a nice Surgeon Scalpel and currently carry it around in a $9.99 Bulldog padded rifle case. Not that it's necessarily a bad option, but the rifle is a bit too big for the cheapo Bulldog case. I would part with $100-$200 for a good (long-lasting) bag/ case. Please advise....What are you guys using?

Re: Good rifle transport bag?

You can't go wrong with Pelican, like a 1750.....but they're heavy.
I also have and recommend an Eagle Industries drag bag. It has a lot of room to keep your gear together where you need it.
Both are made in America to boot! That's really important to me....lots of chi com options out there, but I prefer to support American businesses.

I picked up one of these (OD) at Christmas time when they were on sale, an excellent bargain! Good, heavy construction and lots of pockets for stuff. I'm not sure how it would hold up under heavy use, but for range or hunting trips it would be more than enough. Just wish they made one with a 52" inside length.

+1 on the Pelican

I've traveled twice on the airlines with a Pelican 1750, watched them drop it, sides all dinged up, and it's kept my rifles safe. But they are heavy. That's ok, I don't mind dragging it from the back of my truck to the firing line.

For just basic carry the voodoo tactical works well without breaking the bank. $145 or so for their "drag bag". Works well and accomodates I believe 48".

Ive seen em much cheaper at gun shows too.

Re: Good rifle transport bag?

Keep advertising the CHICOM crap like Voodoo, Midway, Condor, yada yada. Its good stuff.

My storm case is HEAVY & BULKY. If you're not flying with it, go with a soft case. I have an Eagle w/ the backpack straps and it is good to go.

Thanks for the tip. That is just what I need for my 5R. Buy once cry once, because I've had too many problems with the chicom stuff to think that's a good deal anymore.
