Is there a good source/supplier for barrels in stock ready to ship? My local gunsmith who has built one rifle for me and is in the process of building another and has done some small things free of charge, not to mention being a friend of my Dad, is looking at build a rig for himself. I am not 100% sure on what he is looking for, but I think he is wanting a sporter contour and I think he is contemplating building a 280AI.

Just trying to help him out in finding a good supplier that keeps a variety of barrels in stock ready to ship out so he doesn't have to wait. Barrel could be a Hart, Krieger, Bartlein, Douglas, etc.

Thanks.

Most of the barrel companies have a inventory list on there websites, or you can even call and ask. Another option is watch classifieds on forums etc. If you have to wait to get exactly what you want, check the different barrel companies on there manufacturing time. From my experience Hart has a shorter wait time than Krieger by a couple months.

All of these places usually have a decent selection of top quality barrels in stock. Grizzly, as far as I have been able to find, exclusively carries Bartlein, but they have a very good selection of calibers and contours. Bugholes has a very large selection of manufacturers, contours and calibers. Third Generation Shooting Supply has a more limited supply, but carries Benchmark and Krieger barrels.

If you buy from Bugholes, be prepared to pay a hefty credit card "fee" on top of the advertised price. I've bought several from him in the past and I'm not knocking him, but I'll shop with Grizzly and 3rd Gen where they realize the cost of being able to accept credit card payments is just a cost of doing business.

Also, alot of rifle builders will keep barrels in stock. I've bought a few in the past from some big name smiths even though they weren't the ones building the rifle.
