I think it would be absolutely appropriate to continue that discussion over here:

Bushnell vs. PST input was solicited...

FWIW, the Bushnell would be a strong consideration for me if they offered something other than a traditional MD reticle.

Well if and when FFP scopes become as common and popular as SFP scopes here in the US, then more makers will offer them and competition ensues. The FFP scope makers have a captive market to cater to right now. FFP scopes are limited in the US and I would wager that 99% of the buying public of sporting optics have no clue that there are two types of rifle scope focal plane possible, as they have never owned anything other than what they could buy from the national brands, SFP.

I've got the Vortex PST 6-24x50 coming soon to put on my new Savage. I ordered 1" Nightforce rings and a 20 MOA Nightforce base, does anyone know if I could go any shorter on the rings and still have the clearance that I need?

Re: Got my Viper PST 4-16x50 today!!

I don't have to much to add, other than I own a Vortex 6.5-20x44 that is on my Rem 700, and it just rocks. I bought mine from Scott over at Liberty, and I just bought an AR, and getting ready to buy another scope from Scott for it, and more than likely, going Vortex as well on it.
I just personally do not see, dollar for dollar, any other company that makes a better scope than Vortex.
That's just me, take it for what it's worth.

I have met another member from the hide over at our local gun range, and I let him put a few down range with my 700/Vortex setup, and he has a Tikka/NF setup.
He asked me how much I paid for my scope, he fell over. Now, even though NEITHER one of us are "experts" when it comes to optics, NEITHER one of us could tell the difference in clarity and putting rounds down range. And to me, that is all that matters.
So, maybe someone can tell me why anyone would pay more for another scope, when you don't have to...I am sure there is a reason, albeit technical, but as far as shooting at the gun range, no difference.
I am by NO MEANS bashing ANY company, as I think we all know that NF makes one hell of a scope. I am just saying for teh money..

Re: Got my Viper PST 4-16x50 today!!

NF is generally the best scope for your money that you can get. However, I must say that the Vortex PST gives you a great deal of scope for the money, rivaling that of NF. This is my first lower end optic, and I don't feel I am missing anything. It is certainly the best FFP scope for the money right now hands down. Give it some time when more orders are filled, and guys that can actually get to the range post some good objective reviews. I certainly will when that day comes for me. Still about a month away from the range...

Nice. Are the irons usable with the scope mounted?

Re: Got my Viper PST 4-16x50 today!!

barely, you can see straight down the channel, but the scope bell is right on top of the tip of the front sight. A 42mm objective would be just right for using iron sights.

I have the same scope and my rings are 30mm like the scope tube. The rings are Burris Extreme Tactical "LOW" rings. They are on a Savage Duel Port Target action.

Thanks. You may have already covered it and I missed it, but what rings are you using, and what height?

Palmik said, "Those are Smith Enterprise wire edm rings in the lowest height they had. With a 50mm objective, you can go as low as they make them. Plenty of clearance, and you still need a cheek rest to get your head up high enough. I am gonna throw the rifle in a Sage stock one day hopefully."

Hope that helps.

I should be getting my 4-16x50 monday. Then its going on my 308LR. I am looking forward to seeing how it performs on my rifle soon.
