Hello,
Anyone have experience in dealing with the government liquidation auctions for brass. They include the pallets and containers holding the brass in the overall weight but say the weight of the containers is unknown. If it was just a pallet thats easy enough to guestimate but then there are multiple containers on it that would be impossible to judge. Upon emailing the person in charge of the given auction they said I dont know what to tell you, its part of the total weight. So basically its a crapshoot. Anyone have any dealings with them in terms of brass??

yes, basically. I tried and get a bit more info and none of them know anything about it. I was just wondering if anyone here had a methodology for dealing with it, any particular experience.

Re: government liquidation auction questions

Most of the auctions include the containers unless they are in metal hoppers. You really need to look at the brass in person to get an idea of what you are bidding on though. Sometimes the brass is stored outside and has a significant amount of water in it that will give you nasty brass in the bottom. The other thing is that they can sometimes have a significant amount of non-LC brass or blank brass.

You will also have to do an End User Certificate which takes a few weeks before you can make arrangements to pickup your brass.

Lastly, they also charge a 10% buyers fee to the auction along with sales tax, so the price is quite a bit higher than you might think from looking at old auctions.

Ok great. I was only looking at auctions that were nearby so I could check them out. And that blank brass had me thinking. If only the government were as good at doing business as it is collecting the funds this would be easier
