I'm in the market for a new portable GPS. I would like to be able to measure straight line distances between two points. Right now I have an old Garmin 60cs that will go out to about 1k yds but then it converts over to tenths of a mile which is too coarse. Since I'm shooting farther now I'd like to be able to measure out to 2k plus. I like the Oregon line but can't find any reference to its ability to do this. What I've been doing is take the coordinates of my shooting point and target and when I get home, fire up Google Earth and use the ruler tool.
So are there any GPS's out there that can perform this?

Re: GPS for measuring distance?

Use your Garmin and switch the units over to metric. It will give you measurements like "1.27km", and +-5m should be accurate enough for your application. You can then always convert meters to yards by multiplying by 1.094.
