My grandfather recently gave me one of his old rifles he made in the early 70s. He is getting pretty old and has forgot a lot of things. From the research and what I have gathered from him it has a Czech Kar 98k action and Douglas 26" barrel. The Barrel twist I don't know. The caliber is a 350 Remington magnum cartridge necked down to 7mm. Very similar in measurement to the 7mm WSM of today. He was using around 65 grains of IMR 4350 on a 180 grain bullet. I want to start over and work something up from a coyote gun for anything from 100 to maybe 1k if the opportunity arises. I'm looking for any advice you may have. My thoughts at the moment are Varget and 168 SMKs. I have never reloaded 7mm before and those seem to be pretty popular. Thank you guys in advance.

I would first start by finding out what twist barrel you've got; this will let you know what weight bullets will work. Take a cleaning rod with a very tight fitting patch and start it a few inches into the bore. Place a mark on the cleaning rod right where the rod meets the muzzle crown, and then push the patch down the bore until the rod has made one complete revolution and place another mark at the crown. Measure between the marks and you will then know what twist barrel you're dealing with.
