My buddy John was just able to adopt his working dog. The media did a nice deal on the homecoming:

Layton man brings home dog who saved his life in Afghanistan | KSL.com

He and I (and our mutts) worked together and I took over his camp after his incident. He's an amazing dude that makes everyone he meets a better person just for knowing him, and his mutt was the only dog that mine (in my avatar) ever got along with. Mine was retired a few years ago and now lives a few miles from SLC, so now we're working out getting the two idiots back together for a visit.

My office got super dusty watching them meet up again.

The standard joke was that the dogs were the "experts" we were just the idiots willing to walk behind them and tell everyone else when it was time to RUN!!

I got to visit with Balto last week as he was being processed to fly to the States. It's always nice seeing them go home, because for most of them it will be the first time since they left Holland that they've seen grass, and usually the first time in their lives that they've had a bed or a couch to sleep on, and they're usually 7-8yrs old or so at that point.
