Today my wife gave me my birthday present early (guess she just couldn't wait any longer).
Thanks to a good friend, earlier this year I got a chance to sit and BS with Chuck Mawhinney. It wasn't just a handshake like you get at the gunshows. We actually got to sit and drink beer and meet the family and whatnot. He is a hell of a nice guy. While I was talking to him I got to see one of the prints that Micheal Wooten did of Chuck in Vietnam. I figured it would be a real nice addition to my den at home.
When I got back from that trip I jumped on Micheal Wooten's website and ordered one. Shortly thereafter I got an email from Mr. Wooten that due to some family problems he was unable to continue to sell the prints and did not know when he would be able to start again (if ever). I spent a month trying to track one down with no luck. Everyone on the web that listed them just ordered them from Mr. Wooten himself and shipped them. No one had them in stock......I thought.
I called my buddy and got Chuck's phone number and I was going to call him and see if he had any left. Things got shifted around here and I put it on the back burner. I just figured the next time I saw Chuck I would mention it.
Flash forward to today. My wife hands me one of those big tubular mailer things. I open it and see that beautiful print. Not only was it signed in the lower right like all the other prints, but there was a personal inscription from Chuck in the lower left corner.
I can't wait to get it framed and hang it on the wall. This will be the second military print my wife has gotten me. The first was the Dick Kramer print "The Grunt" it is also personally inscribed.
I just thought I would share my joy at a woman who at least understands my madness.
If you don't know, here is the print I am talking about:
