Background:
I am stationed at Holloman AFB NM. We have a German Flight School here. They now have a requirement to come out and qualify on our range.

Today was the first day they have come. They are not infnatry and have not shot in a long time. So they... sucked. The rest of the gus I work with wound up learning a new weapon in a few minutes and teaching them how to shoot it.

Overall it is accurate. I can't really tell if it is better than a M-16A2 on accuracy because it was one only on a 25m range and the G36 has a magnified scope and a red dot. It does have a free float barrel.

It is a bit outdated though. the buttstock would be unfriendly to smaller people as it is a bit longer than a M-16 and it is not adjustable only folding. You also cant get a good stock weld for either site.

I seemed to be very stable and well built. I want to take it to a longer range.

Overall I liked it but would not trade it for a M4 anyday.

Re: H&K G36

I got to handle some in the Green Zone that were owned by some German Embasy security guys. They had some pretty cool variants of the rifle. They looked neat, I wouldn't mind trying one out at a range.

Re: H&K G36

Handled and shot the G36 a lot, to make it short:

IT SUCKS

The plastic frame makes it too soft for really precise shooting. The POI shifts, if the sun is shining on it. The frame warps slightly with temperature changes. It returns to true after cooling.
The idea of the sights is OK, but the standard scope and reddot are POS.
It is pretty reliable and jams rarely. I saw one rifle which was shot much too hot. The forestock was melted badly, the frame was warped at the barrel nut. It was still shooting.

It is not a rifle for precision shooting, but it is reliable enough.

Now, if HK made one of aluminium, with decent optics, it would be a real hitter!

I like the old G3 HK 41 much more
