Running 175 SMK's out of my 7RM with a 26" barrel. Most accurate with 59.5gr of H4831 at 2800fps.

I noticed in the Hodgdon data that Retumbo is about 100 fps faster in this bullet weight.

Anyone have experience on using Retumbo vs H4831 in the 7RM to comment on the possible velocity gain?

I shot next to a guy shooting 175s Bergers, out of a 7 Rem Mag Sendero II and he was using Retumbo.

It's a powder to consider.

I shoot a 7 RM Sendero I and do the 168s/162s and I'd think that I'd look for Retumbo if I were going heavy. I have some VV-170 here, so I'd try that, as well.

I've used H-4831SC with good results. RL-22, RL-19 and H-1000, as well.

Retumbo, RL25, H1000, IMR7828 are all better choices for the 7RM with heavy bullets.

Re: H4831 vs Retumbo

Thanks...Think I'll pick up some Retumbo when I get a chance and see how it works. The rifle really does not like H1000 and the velocity was not any better than H4831 maybe Retumbo will be the ticket.

Re: H4831 vs Retumbo

4831sc is to fast for that heavy of a bullet. I think you will reach pressure too soon. I load Retumbo in my Uncles Savage 7mm Rem mag. Very accurate. Getting 3200fps behind the Berger 168 CCI-br2 primers.

Here it is in action.

Here is his best three shot group. 1009 Yards. (In loving Memory)

Very neat video Skyking, good vapor trail. BTW, good shooting, maybe it was the SS Media. Yes, I'm going to have to give Retumbo a try.
