I have a cheapie set of "mastercraft" tools that looks exactly the same.

um, no. it is not a $5 pair of stanley channel-locks. the ones in the original post have a specialty jaw and pins for working with a free float hand guard. if the price is too high, don't buy them. i am sure that it isn't as cheap to produce the quantity of these that would be sold vs. the quantity of $5 hardware store pliers.

Uh oh, I offended someone.....

No worries 300, I don't need them and won't buy them. And it was a joke, you can unclench your fists. You are acting like this is your product or something...

no, i am not acting like it is my project. i don't see the point in talking shit about a tool you obviously don't need. i also don't see the point in calling a specialty tool a $5 pair of channel-locks when it is obviously not. what do you accomplish by doing that?

if you make something, you can decide what the price will be. if someone needs it enough, they will buy it. if they don't need it, should they talk shit about it?

is that all you did? just commented on the similarity in appearance?

Re: HaHaHa, Brownells, This made me LOL

Phil Arrington builds a wicked service rifle. He probably installs and/or removes a dozen float tubes a day, the national match style that fit under modified full-size handgaurds. It's a pain in the butt and you usually end up scratching the finish. Then someone isn't happy with their new $2000 rifle (see about 10% of the posts under rifles).

I'm cheap. I'd try to make my own version. I currently use a pair of the chain-on-the-end pipe wrench vise grips that wern't cheap. But I have to pad the hell out of them (see scratches above) and then they slip. Pain. But I use them infrequently.

If I made my living at it that wrench might save me a half hour a day at $65/hr and a refinish job a week.

Worth their weight in gold.

no. i am arguing that it is pointless to talk shit about a product that you obviously have no use for. i am arguing that it is pointless to call a product something that it is not in order to cheapen it's value.

you cared enough to post up, right?

Re: HaHaHa, Brownells, This made me LOL

Just looked at the enlarged photo and yeah maybe they started life as a common grip wrench, but then add the time to actually dissassemble them, jig up and machine the slots in the tip, then drill tap and thead for the pins and finally make and insert said pins re assemble and test.
Add that time to the basic cost and yeah I can see where the added cost comes from. Plus of course you have to add in Brownells profit to cover purchase and inventorying stock.
