Hand loading 6mm creedmoor

Gave my son a Ruger RPR Gen2 in 6mm Creedmoor w/ Vortex Viper Gen2 5-25x50 EBR-2C for his 18th birthday this weekend and took him shooting. Loaded up 50rds of 105gr RDF behind 44grs H4381 and Fed 205M primers in Starline SRP brass so he could have something to shoot. He shot 10 groups of 5 and all were 1/2" to 3/4" CTC out of the box at 100yds. Next range trip we will start OCW load development but so far his rifle loves 105gr RDFs.

My Mega Arms 22" Dracos 6mm CM not so much. It stabilized the 105gr RDF even though it is a 9-twist.
Hey there. I'm a noob here and just getting into the reloading addiction when I found your posts about the RPR.

Did you have any issues with chamber throat? I just sent mine back last week as I think theres a good chance I have no throat at all. I've only run Hornady 108ELD's through it and started to figure out why my bolt was so hard to close.

Looks like they've been jamming DEEP into the lands. I've been into another post on another forum and it appears I'm not alone with this issue. Also starting to see reports of some of this same issue with others in 6.5 Creed. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

With regard to primer size (small vs. large) there's another consideration that, in my experience, outweighs any anecdotal data on group size - bolt vs. gas. i would always go for small primers (.308, 6mm CM) in my bolt gun (Rem 700 action) because i don't care about primer pressure signs. in bolt guns, the top of the pressure is at ejector marks and sticky brass ejection. I would NEVER use small primer brass in my new 6mm CM gas gun. I NEED those primer pressure signs...

I necked down a few Lapua cases and ran a ladder test from 41-43. Found that 42.0 of H4350 was giving me 3030 fps and single digit SD's with great accuracy pushing 105 Berger Hybrids out of my 24" Bartlein. If I didn't have 500 pieces of 1x fired Hornady 6CM I would be using the Lapua brass.

6 Creedmoor, 115gr Berger #24430 , 40.5gr h4350
Bergara hmr pro , 26" , Bushnell Forge 3-18x50 , Magnetospeed V3
2.850 COL , 2.21 BTOL , put me about 0.027" off the lands.

40.5gr h4350 : 2883,2876,2878 X=2879 , SD=3.6 (yes only chrono'd 3 rounds, shot the rest)
1" group at 300 yd, 2moa holdover, Caldwell bags off jeep hood

41.5 h4350 gave me avg 2958fps and sd of 8.1
40.5 of RL16 gave 2892, 2912, 2989 with 2900 avg and SD of 10.2
fyi , Black hills 103gr eld-x off the shelf ammo also shot 1" at 300

Was wondering if I should load a few around 42gr h4350 for a few more fps, maybe another node ....not sure, SD of 3.6 is hard to beat and maybe a keep a little longer barrel life at 40.5 ???

Regardless of your particular load (and there are many), recommend performing a Satterlee ladder test (google it). Awesome ES, but there may be another node at a higher velocity. I suspect given you shoot a 115g bullet, you may already be close to max. Also, RL16 is another powder to consider. I use it to push 108g at 2950 with a 6 ES - and it’s a gasser.

Ahh! Someone else with a 6CM gasser! What’s your load?
