Hunting & Fishing Hare Pile

My son took two of his friends on their first hunt ever. We now have meat for the freezer with a pile of hares.

My son is on the left in blue with Bowtech hat, his friends have never touched a wild game animal before.

Oh, the skinless hare is the one my son showed how to skin and well it was funny but a good learning for pure city kids. They are hooked now, two more young kids into hunting and firearms.

Do they feed off poplar bark up there too? If so, do you really taste it in the meat?

nice haul here we dont eat to many hares as they are tougher and realy heavy metalic taste but i have shot thousands of rabbits, the best way i have found to skin them is to cut across their back then slide the fingers in and pull half over the head and the other half down over the legs. trim the feet and head off aswell as tail then gut and finished.

Not real good if you wanted the skin though. as you can see i dont.

It is very easier to kill hares here. They turn white with no snow. Hares or I guess rabbits are abundant too. They do no jump and run. A single head shot with the Nylon66 is all that is needed.

The meat is actually quite fair, no real game taste but does have the dry..no fat..after taste. The wife put a mess in the crock pot with seasoning, when done pulled the meat off the bone, made a stew with potatoes, carrots, onions, bunch of stuff in it.

Soaking them in a salt brine will pull a lot of the bloody game taste out, we do not have too.

The good side of this whole post is, we have two more gun owners in the Republic. My sons two friends are now gun owners after living in a house with parents who are anti gun liberals. One turned 18 last weekend and bought a Nova 12ga and is planning on a 06 for big game now. The other one is 21 and bought a firearm too that same day as his friend. This was the first time either of them used firearms and touched wild game.

Since the date of this post, my son now has two more addition city kids out hunting = total of 4.
