Harris - which adapter setup??

Hello all,

I have the go-to Harris bipod (6-9" with swivel) and I am getting into PRS. My new rifle has an MPA chassis with the Arca rail under the forearm and a spigot mount up front, currently with pic rail OR bipod stud. My bipod is currently shared among several ARs and bolt actions using the simple bipod stud attachment. I'm open to ditching this method completely for something easier to swap and retrofitting pic rail on the other rifles as needed.

What would you do if you were in my shoes? I'm not crazy about the idea of having an adapter that attaches to another adapter but at the same time it looks like most options that remove the conventional stud attachment also drop the function of the leaf springs, which seem to work pretty handy.

I'm open to all options, buying a second bipod, buying a different bipod, looking at different adapters, etc. At the same time I don't want to just throw money down the drain. What do you guys think? Am I too hung up on losing the leaf springs?

Edit: I'm looking hard at this adapter but again, I'm hesitant to lose the leaf springs. I'd also prefer a lever versus a thumb screw but I can deal with the screw: http://soar.reallyrightstuff.com/HC-Pro-Clamp-for-Harris-Bipod

Since you are sharing the bipod among other guns, I would just keep it simple.
Get the RRS Harris clamp adapter: http://soar.reallyrightstuff.com/Harris-Clamp-Adapter?quantity=1&custcol60=5
And something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Desmond-Adap...TF8&qid=1527450644&sr=8-6&keywords=arca+clamp

Then you'll have full utility of the dovetail cut on your MPA, while not having to buy expensive adapters or alter your bipod so that it no longer works on your other guns. I just helped my brother with this exact setup and he loves it, plus its easy on the wallet.

I've a couple of the ADM Harris mounts, they work great. Don't forget a Pod Loc, a lot of vendors stock those.

Get another bipod for the ADM. Switching mounting systems is a PIA.

I took your advice and bought both these items but the threads aren't compatible. How did you attach them to one another?

I've got the really right stuff adapter that can do picatinny or arca/rrs dovetail. It's great.

Another vote for RRS. It handles either pic or ACRA; win/win.

I have the Knights. It is excellent, but pic only.

If all of your rifles are ARCA, KRG is the way to go. If you need picatinny as well, then RRS is the way to go. Both are very nice, but the KRG will survive the apocalypse.

I use KAC shit for the most part when it comes to rails. But I was gonna second that Pod loc --it's only a few bucks and it was so damn nice I bought one for every Harris I have. I don't understand why Harris hasn't done this yet, it makes the bipod a lot more useful and user friendly.

Yeah seriously its 2018, they should be offering picatinny adapters from the factory.

I direct mounted my bipod today with the KRG setup, it is just bolted to the spigot, not on a picatinny or ARCA rail:

I’m currently setting up a new rifle for PRS style matches. I’m going to go with the RRS HC-Pro. I don’t like the idea of having two adaptors bolted together and I can’t wait to get rid of the sling stud and thumb screw that is always coming loose.

I wouldn’t direct mount the bipod. The beauty of the ARCA rail is you have tons of adjustment. We shoot of the tops of 55 gallon barrels and small rocks. Being able to quickly move my bipod from way out front to right next to the magazine will be awesome.
