I've read a couple forums that mentioned a 40% discount for active duty military on one item per year. After having looked on the S&W site and searched on here, there's not much information out there about this. Has anyone used this program yet? Is it for real or another internet rumor?

I'm seriously considering a pistol in the M&P line and if the discount is legit, this would pretty much sell me on it.

IIRC its a legit deal but the "catch" to it is that its off of MSRP and not off retail price. Most dealers are already selling at around the 40% off MSRP cost, or if not are really pretty close and it doesnt really "save" you all that much, but it does save you some.

Try http://www.budspolicesupply.com/catalog/...amp;x=0&y=0

Prices include shipping and you must send them a picture of either Police or Military ID. It's a pretty good discount.

For example:

Impact guns sells this gun for (with shipping) $700
http://www.impactguns.com/store/022188095562.html#21348

Buds sells the same gun, shipping included. for $549
http://www.budspolicesupply.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=109556&x=30&y=8
(I realize it's out of stock but that's the only model I could find that both sites carried.)

Re: Has anyone used the active duty S&W discount?

It is a violation of federal law to send someone a copy of a military ID card.

I'd send them something else (orders, some sort of paperwork, etc.), but NEVER a copy of my military ID.

+1. They send us reminders to that effect a couple times a year.

I'm going to contact bud's tomorrow. That's a GREAT deal for that pistol. Obviously I've got stacks of documentation in my "I love me" book. I'll see what they say.

Re: Has anyone used the active duty S&W discount?

Did they change the policy? I thought it was only for 2009. Do you have the link or can you use the old form from last year.

FWIW, I looked into this last year before I retired and some of the performance center guns were worth effort.

Thanks

Re: Has anyone used the active duty S&W discount?

I heard an interesting rumor (never been confirmed as fact so I leave the disclaimer that it's just rumor at this point) that S&W produced too many M&Ps, so they did this discount program to help move them. They then extended the discount to all their weapons to bolster sales, and hopefully generating future customer loyalty.

I know S&W has been offering police departments HUGE discounts on the M&P15 rifles (basically selling them at cost) if agency will switch to the M&P pistols. This is also rumored to be because of a large surplus of M&P pistols that they can't move.

Re: Has anyone used the active duty S&W discount?

I'm going to call them about this and find out. Once the M&P 45 Pro comes out, I'm almost positive I'll piss the wife off again and buy another gun. I think the cost would be around $475 new if the deal is still going on.

This is the link from a google search "smith and wesson military discount" on a concealed carry forum. Still, I'm not sure if the company still offers it (the posts are from 2007) but hell, for 40% off, it's worth a try. Here is the link, scroll down and click on the hyperlinks for pdfs of the forms:

S&W has been selling more M&Ps than it can make for about 3 years.

Police departments get huge discounts because a single contract can be worth 10-15% of S&W's revenue for a whole year. S&W is the largest American handgun company and it really wants a bite of Glock's market share.

Whoever told you S&W had too many M&Ps was mistaken. Manufacturing was backed up before Obama even took office.
