Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Like I said, I hate to be a tool, but with the crazy prices going and me having a new Colt sitting in the safe, it's a hard decision to make. Now on one hand I fully realize the prices are way overboard, and I for one would never pay $2500 for an AR. But I wouldn't pay 15k for somebody to build a deck on my house either. But I got one collecting dust, and I need some other parts to add to my .308 build. I hate scalpers, but now in the position to be one, and it's costing me some sleep. These are just the WTF times we now live in I guess.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

What kind of upper does it have? Im in bad need of a flat top upper

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

There is nothing wrong with selling your AR for a profit. Buying low and selling high is the name of the game. You're not gouging a single person, as you're not forcing anyone to buy your AR. It's capitalism. The people who bitch have much more in common with socialist liberals than they think.

Capitalism is an economic system that is based on private ownership of the means of production and the creation of goods and services for profit. Other elements central to capitalism include capital accumulation and competitive markets.[1] In a capitalist system, wage rates, costs of goods and services, interest rates, the production and hierarchy of capital and consumer goods are coordinated by supply and demand in a free price system.

All true, but why won't you (OP) pay $15,000 for your deck to be built? That seems awfully Anti Carpenter. You do know what our Lord and Savior did for a living before his main gig took off right?

This is why I have to tell people my specialty is gynecology...

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

I guarantee you that not a single person will pay you $2500 for your AR, when they don't want to. Wants and needs determine gouging. Cash in on your investment and pop a Benadryl if you have trouble sleeping.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

I purchased some silver when it was $7/oz. Should I feel bad selling it for $30/oz? You are allowing someone to purchase something that they otherwise would not be able to. There simply is no supply. You should be rewarded for having the foresight of acquiring one before supply fell short.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Tools are all the people who pay outlandish prices for something they don't need but buy things because of fear. If someone wants to spend $2500 on an AR more power to them. They might be wealthy and that $2500 to us is $25 to them. Post it up for sale here, Gun Broker, Guns America etc... and let the sale begin. Heres a good example of a tool I overheard in the gun store yesterday.

Tool (asking one of the employees) - Whats that one right there (pointing to an AR on the wall)
Employee - Thats a Knights Armament
Tool - Mikes Armament?
Employee - No, Knights like Knights
Tool - Do you have something better like a DPMS or a Bushmaster?

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

They only reason I would not sell is because you would not be able to buy it in the future. If you need the money then sell it. But you can always make more money but someday you might not be able to get an AR again.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Sell it for a profit, who cares? With that being said, IF, u can't ever buy another one.....would that be worth it in the long run?

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

It is a hedge bet, you can sell for more than you purchased and then upgrade your 308, and possible buy another if the ban does not go though. If the ban goes through you will be SOL.

I dont see this situation as you being a tool, as you invested in a quality AR, and your investment has a positive yield. If the ban does not go through and the prices drop, you will feel even worse.

It is a supply and demand thing, those who were un-prepared are paying the outrageous prices. If you are cobbling crappy AR kits and trying to work over your buddies that is a different story.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Post it. I sold one for $1700 but had to deal with a few "tools" making ignorant comments. Not as bad as a SCAR 17 going for $8000 or 3 SCAR 17 magazines going for $2000 on GB over Christmas. Really.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

To the OP, get what you can.

I seen your thread shooterM1, was really ridiculous that shit guys were dishing out. I honestly think that it has to be jealousy.

We all have a price. At some point a cash amount is more important than havin an AR. Just as many guys on this site have multiple high end bolt gus, there are many that have multiple AR's.

I had 3, sold one about 6 months ago (at a loss) and now I'm in the same position as you. There's one I shoot and one I don't. At one point they were all important to me, so important that I invested money at that time in purchasing them. So why should we sell them for the same damm price. There's items that are sold on the Post Exchange at significant losses, but guys eat it up when their on the receiveing end of a great deal without any hesitation. So, I really don't understand their logic of having a problem with the other side of a free market. We're not talking about needs (i.e. food and water), we are talking about wants.

IF YOU WANTED ONE, you had plenty of time to purchase one.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

The "Panic" has peaked... Atleast for those who had the money to throw around.

I'd wait and see what plays out with any new legislation.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

I get to hear the same shit, that somehow I'm 'lucky' that I have some extra Colts to sell into this frenzy.

Well, here's the deal, I drive an eight year old truck, that I paid for five years ago, that's a choice.

I have the same TV we bought in 2002, that's a choice.

I don't have a brand new Iphone, nor do I have a contract, it's month to month so I can say fuck you anytime I want.

And all the money I watched other people poor into having just the latest gizmo, car, TV, laptop, I-whatever-the fuck, or just pissed off on vacations and dinners out, I poored into the shit people want right now.

So if I, or you, want to sell into this market, that's a choice.

Profiteer all you can, great time to upgrade your kit, which is what I'm doing.

Fuck this government and their bans anyway, I'd like them to see how this shit turns when they want to gather them up, I bought popcorn in number 10 cans when it was cheap too.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Good advice from the members. Listing it tomorrow. I have 2 other ones in the safe, so this one is going.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

Well Is Senator Fienstein (or whatever her name is) gets her way you will never be able to sell it either.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

I recently sold my 2 yr old Colt for close to what I paid for it when it was new. I kinda wish I listed it for more... But I felt good getting the cash and moved on to another rifle. No regrets really. Sure it's nice to get twice the price for it but I don't lose sleep over it.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

what i hate is the regular gun guys (such as myself) that bougt and sold rifles all the time before the panic are now on the sidelines. I want a Nosler/Noveske Varmageddon so bad, but Nosler sounded like they doubt if they will get to me as I am so far down the list and a guy on GB had just the rifle up for 4500!!! No thanks. So, i've decided to wait it out and if the unthinkable happens, i'm good, just not as good as I want to be.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

OP, If you feel bad about the profit, (you should not) then you could just trade it for exactly what you paid for it but only accept gold in trade that someone bought at 300. That should ease your mind.
The guys crying and bitching about profits would be the first to take them if they had the goods to sell. It is pure and simple jealosy. The strongest human emotion.

Re: Hate to be a tool.........but may have to sell AR!

You might make someone's day if they could buy it at $2500.00 If indeed a ban is enacted so that they cannot be purchased "new" that will become a bargain. If they are able to pass through a ban that will not allow sales or transfers on currently owned AR's, it will be priceless to someone who really desires it. Go ahead, make someone's day.
