Heads up, no shit "9mm vs. .45" thread

These threads are always fucked up because they never convert to one measurement unit.

As long as they compare "9mm" to ".45 cal" they are talking bannanas to mangoes and the debate will just go on.

Solve the math inconsistency first and the answer will follow............

.355 vs .451, that is entirely disruptive and hateful...

Well, shouldn't someone go over there and introduce whether Israeli Carry is better or worse depending on whether you use 9mm or .45?

Cheers,

.375 round ball over 15gr FFFg. Cause there's nothing more badass than having a rear site on the hammer.
i mean....if im honest....my Remington new model army has the fastest draw and quickest first shot on target of any of my sidearms.....

although personally i prefer a .44 roundball over 30gr of FFFG......theres no way you are going to reach the FBI minimum penetration with a wimpy load of 15gr........and god forbid you have to shoot through 17 layers of denim and autoglass....

Thanks for reminding me to take the 1858 repro out of the box and have some old fashioned fun.

Brass frame load, although my repro is steel. Only needed to get through one worn layer of blue wool. ;-)

Not only are these BP revolver guns great fun to shoot but they can also put some serious hurt downrange.

Tore up one of my handgun targets pretty badly with the 1858 loaded to the max where a 9mm would not leave a dent.

Revolvers with decent barrel lengths are lots of fun, very accurate and can deliver a pretty big dose of hurt downrange.
One day when I get older and have time / space, I want to take up speed drawing. What the masters can do is simply amazing.

im still a fan of revolvers over autos because the are actually made to fit in a human hand......

because of the magazine, ive felt very few semis that actually feel like they belong in your hand.....ergonomics always feels like an afterthought.

someone really needs to come out with a mauser C96 with a K-frame grip....ide be all over that.

I enjoy my revolvers, but feel exactly the opposite.
Have you tried round butt frames/grips? Or if that does not work for you, a square butt? I found that for most people, depending on their hand shape, one of the revolver grip styles fits nicely and the other one feels worse than the grip of a Block. There may be a few outliers where the Block is the optimum. Nothing stops you from putting such a grip on a revolver.

Square, round, finger-grooved, SAA type, oversized SAA type, JM's favorite, you name it, over 40 plus years I've tried most. Don't misunderstand, some feel much better than others, but holding a 1911 feels like holding a firm, supple boob. It just feels right.

The best grip I ever used was a Pachmyar Presentation on a Dan Wesson 15VH in my IHMSA days.

Pachs kick ass, but they like to hang up a little on your threads.

I've always preferred the Ruger Bisley style revolver grip.

See pic of stainless 45LC.

S&W round butts are also good.
As of yesterday, I received a custom done by Gary Reeder. He did a refinish, action job and grips with the grip frame conversion to his Gunfighter style. Basically a rounded butt and a bit slimmer, but way more comfortable.

Looks like I'll be spending more money to get the stainless one converted.

Just went outside and put a couple of rounds through both a S&W 629 round butt (.44Mag) and a Glock 32 (.357SIG). I think the difference is not so much the grip comfort for the dominant hand but how both hands work together on the different platforms.

Shot with one hand only, the revolver -even with substancially more recoil- just comes back on target by itself whereas the pistol jumps all over the place. No contest there.

Since I am used to driving a pistol agressively with both hands, thumbs forward, the revolver feels odd at first. If I go a little more "Weaver style" with my hands things get and feel better with multiple shots on multiple targets. I don't change my stance just do less work with the support side. The support hand becomes only support and does not drive as much.

(I wish I had a version of the famed 1911 for a fair comparison but they are either out of my price or my patience range.)

I like to carry my Commanders but with warm weather coming up Ill switch to a S&W Model 36.

Of been pining in another thread about a 1968 Colt Agent that has caught my eye locally. Looks like this but the one Im looking at is in better condition...

Nice guns and another example that one style/size does not fit all.
In my hands, the classic Rugers -as beautiful as they are- feel big and chunky whereas the huge N-frame with its Pachmayr round butt feels like a pocket gun with a heavy, long barrel.

I agree on the clunky feeling with the Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk grips, that's why I like the Bisley. Gary's modification to it gives it a round butt feel with more to hang on to.

I've seriously thought about carrying a revolver. Much easier to hide since it's not shaped like a brick. We all dream of the firefight where we need to change magazines, but in reality that rarely if ever happens.

well fuck me.....that a beautiful piece......ive been dying for a pair of vaqueros with a nice tooled leather rig......might have to break down and buy them

I've carried both a K-frame and an SP-101 within recent memory. If I really wanted something exotic, I think I'd get a Schofield repro.

Careful which clambering you choose. That could get you in mullers crosshairs.

You mean like something in a rifle caliber with available (their BS definition) AP ammo. Yeah, make mine a break-open 5.45x39. Can you imagine how they'd have to build it?

I've got a couple of those Schofield ones by Uberti in .45 colt.
They shoot wonderfully and fit the hand like they were made for you.
Reloads are amazingly fast too.

those italian reps are no joke....i mean hell, the cylinder lockup on my piettas are tighter than on my new production smiths......and fit and finish is light years ahead of Rugers....

This guy and a buddy were sighting their rifles in. One of the guns was leaned up against the 4 wheeler he was standing on. The gun started to fall and I'm not sure if his buddy grabbed it, or something on the bike caught the trigger. Either way, he caught a 325 grain .45-70 round right under the collar bone. I think it goes with out being said, how lucky he is to still be here.

The big hole around his shoulder blade is where the bullet entered and it traveled under his skin and exited right there on his neck, above his spinal cord! Just goes to show that he truly is LUCKY! The ballistic tip mainly just burned the edges of the skin of the wound that you see in the picture. He's getting better & better every day, last night he was even doing push ups!! He's finally able to use his arm again! Somehow it didn't hit anything major and basically ended up being a really bad flesh wound! It is truly a miracle that he is alive and not paralyzed!
