Hi all
Just got back from a shoot out in central NSW Australia and had great week I took 64 pigs
I would post up a pic but I am not that savy yet with the site .But the main question is hearing protection over here they say the peltor sportac is the best but as my ears are not good from shooting I would like to buy the best ste of ears I can get for hunting. So I can still here whats around me like normal but shut out the bark of my 300 mag and 338lap mag any idea's info on your preference would be great as I have never used them while hunting .
Many Thanks

The number you need to check is the NRR for the protection. Higher NRR implies more protection. BUT, NRR is determined by the manufacturer, so some manufacturers game the system.

About the highest NRR for a muff, without any electronics, is about 29. Electronics reduce the NRR due to shell penetrations and reduce sound absorbing materials for the electronics.

NRR is in dB, and a 3dB change is double or half the sound pressure level.

For maximum protection wear foam plugs under the muffs. With electronic muffs, you can still hear things, but get very good protection.

The maximum for plugs and muffs combined is about 45 dB. The rest of the noise will still enter via bone conduction.

Personally, I use Howard Leight Max plugs and Pro Ears electronic muffs. Or for times I do not need the electronics, I use Howard Leight Thunder 29 muffs.

I use a Nacre Quiet Pro- they are now part of Honeywell. These units amplify ambient noise and attenuate loud noises. The unit mounts to a belt or chest rig and all you have at your ears is wired ear plugs.
There are used ones available here:
NACRE, QUIETPRO, SINGLE [NACRE.QUIETPRO.SINGLE_D_R] - $249.00 : Wardens Supply Company!
The are, by far, the most effect and most comfortable ear pro Ive used.
When I'm not in the need or mood for an amplified system, I use Howard Leight 33dB rated foam plugs.
Use the search function to look up old threads re earpro. There are plenty of them

+1 love mine. Get the gel pads too. Plugs into your iPhone if you want. Pretty low pro as well. I shoot mine with my 338 lapua and 50 BMG. Check out SRS tactical to price shop them as well. That's where I bought mine.

Last time I checked, SRS Tactical was not an authorized MSA dealer. They were importing them from Sordin in the UK, which means that MSA will not honor the warranty and Sordin will require that they be sent back to the UK.

Thanks heaps guys for the info i want set of all of them now so I can change when I get sick of them . I am licensed builder in NSW Aus so I am use to having muffs on all day . I have put off wearing them for hunting for years but I need to start to take measures to protect my hearing I should get use wearing them after a while when hunting. I just got an email from my smithy I sold my barrett m98 and have commisioned rob to build me another 338lm . An ATH thumb hole stock from Mcmillan in with a 32 inch batlein barrel and the rebel defiance action. And I have been wainting for 15 months and rob has just sent me an email saying the actions have been sent. You know whats its like waiting for a new toy its killing me. I have a new PM11 to mount on it with badger rings so I will need to sought out my ear issues out fast.
Once again thanks guys will start to read up.
Cheers
