Just a note to say hello and introduce myself. I also have a question for the experts out there concerning my Gemtech .223 suppressor.
I finally built my SPR and after i broke the barrel in i took it to the range for grouping. My first 5 unsuppressed rounds touched into one hole. my second group with can was all over the frickin place and only got worse with the suppressor. I am a marine 2x rifle and pistol expert and have been shooting all of my life. I like to think i have an understanding on the fundamentals. Is this the typical result for .223 cans? I was wondering if ACC Or SF Or Jet would give me better groups.
Details.
virgin 18" DPMS Match barrel
Mccormic trigger pack
Leupold 3.5x9
DPMS upper and lower
Standard bolt and carrier
PRI Gas Buster
Gemtech m96d with quick disconnect
range 100 yards, paper targets 0 wind 80 degrees 8% rh sunny day.
Shot from GG&G Bipod and sand bag rear.
slow rate of fire ( maybe 3 rds per minute)
ammo Hornady 75 grain Tap fed from 20rd magpul
Thanks for the help if any and hopefully get to know some of you guys and if you are in Las Vegas area and need a spotter look me up...lol

Re: Hello all

I saw something simliar with a buddies rifle. Although this was a 308 and a SWR can. HIS can was messing with his barrel harmonics and was causing the barrel to touch the stock, we hogged out his stock and now MUCH better groupings.

Make sure that your can is concentric with the bore of your barrel as well. A little bit will cause uneven pressures as the bullet leaves the barrel and can cause it to fly odly as if the crown of the barrel were flubbed up on rifle with no muzzle device.

Re: Hello all

what usually happens when the group opens up is.......something is loose and or not shouldered up.......the possibility is also that the may be a bullet strike in the can or exit hole....look for it....you'll know it when you see it.

Re: Hello all

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!
The Point of impact usually changes with the cans on, you just have to site in your scope for it. But all over the place something is wrong! I had the same problems with my Gemtech Backside or Blackside 45 can. I can not remember the name of it. Sent it back to them and they gave me A BS story how they trued up my barrel. When in fact they sent me a new can back. Mine had a little mark from hitting the safe one time and now that marks gone???.. I would send the hole rig to them and let them fix it..
But first try different ammo. I shoot 52 or 53 grain threw my Gemtech 223 can with no problems..
Good Luck!

Re: Hello all

Thanks Outsyd, it has an ARMS rail so i know we are free float. I will look into the barrel thread concentric, any ideas how to check. I assembled the rifle myself and like to think i didnt flubb the threading. I assembled the quick disconnect on the factory threads and i know they could be off from the factory. How can i attach a pic?

Re: Hello all

I was watching for the standard POI change from Suppressed. I will try to post picts. The Barrel is 1:9 twist so lighter bullets wouldnt be very good to use. Thank for all the help guys. I wonder about sending it to them because i have shot the hell +(20,000) rds through the suppressor.
