Hello all. Chris from South Carolina. I'm not new to shooting but new to the idea of competing in long range shooting. I've owned or shot many variations of AR's, other long guns, and handguns for most of my 46 years. Last time I deployed I was sent to the Designated Marksman course and learned just how much fun it was pushing an AR out to 600 yards with iron sights. All the Army ever wanted you to know was 300 so it was a nice change. Even shooting my own weapons I usually never shot much over 250-300. Spent the two weeks learning about mirage, wind, hold over, etc. The Stress Fire at the end was the best. Started at the 100 berm, 4 rounds, ran to 200 then 4 rounds. All the way back to 600 then back up to the 200 for 40 rounds total. Got 37 of 40 hits and the misses were on the 300 and 400 line. Not sure what I did though. Anyway, I knew I would one day want to get into long range shooting. I want to tag steel at 1000...or more if possible.
Not too long ago I bought a Remington 700 .308 with a fluted 26" barrel. The bolt is polished and the rifle was upgraded with an internal recoil reducing system by the previous owner. Not sure if he meant in the rifle or the stock. Has an extended 7 round mag well and a Leupold Mark 4 scope base. I have a cheap BSA scope to use just to get range time but I am saving for some nice glass. May be another couple months though as I'm only at $250 and figure I'd need at least $600 or more. It has an H-S Precision PST25 stock with adjustable cheek and LOP. Some pics are below. It has their standard trigger but I was thinking of doing either a Timney trigger or X-Mark Pro adjustable, any recommendations for either or something different. I have two bipods, one that pivots and one that doesn't. I've also started reloading, this .308 is expensive. As I gain experience, hopefully I'll be able to get some nice loads.
Anyway, here are some pics below.
V/r,
Chris
