OK
I've been a member here for quite awhile but I don't post much. Usually I search for what I need to find out and there always seems to be an answer. In this case, I can't find what I am looking for and I'm sure it's staring me right in the face.

A quick back story....I bought what I was told was a Rem. 700 ADL Short Action Youth stock from an individual and had it sent straight to the painter for a custom finish for my 13 year old daughter's .243. It was a surprise for her and I was beyond excited to pick it up last night and get her rifle in it so I could show her. I'm sure you've figured out by now....it didn't fit. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Granted, it's my fault for not getting my hands on it and checking it first. I'm still not sure if I want to sell it and get a little of my money back and get the correct stock and start all over, or just buy something that will fit in the stock.

My question is, where can I find stock dimensions so I can see exactly what I have? I've searched all over for dimensions or comparison pics and can't find anything. I even tried getting overall dimensions of various L/A vs S/A and Youth vs Regular rifles and doing the math to try to figure it out but my results were all over the place. I haven't put a measuring tape on it yet but just holding it up next to the S/A Youth stock from her .243, it is about an inch longer overall and the opening for the follower is probably 1/2" to 3/4" longer.

Does anyone have any ideas?? I'm thinking I will probably list it for sale to see if I can get any interest but I want to make sure I know exactly what it is first so the same thing doesn't happen to the next guy.

Thanks in advance for any help! This forum has been a great resource for me!

I should add....I assume it is a long action by comparing it to the short action stock, but what I'm not sure of is if it is a youth L/A or a regular L/A.

Unfortunately I don't have a pic with the stock next to another stock, but I just snapped a few with a ruler next to it for reference.

The space for the blind mag is about 3.5":

I tried posting this earlier and it wouldn't post for some reason. Let me try this again.

I don't have any next to another stock so I snapped a few with a ruler. These two pics are measured from the end of the stock (not including the butt pad).

OK I happen to have a long action stock from an SPS right here at the desk
I think you have a short action stock based on the mag well. Mine measures 4-1/8" long, yours looks to be around 3-1/2 correct?
BUT the important thing is the difference between the two action mounting holes. 7-5/16" center to center is long action. I'm not sure if Remington uses different length follower/spring assemblies besides short/long but it would make sense, maybe you got a stock off a longer chambering (possibly a short action Magnum would make the difference.
Tell us if the .243 action's bolt holes line up with the stock for starters though

Thanks for the replies guys.

Actually, I should have done a better job on the pic showing the magwell because that pic is deceiving due to the camera angle and how I was holding the ruler. It is actually measuring 4" if I put the ruler down in the stock. The magwell on the .243 was considerably shortly. Somewhere between 1/2" to 1" shorter. And the action holes are measuring exactly 7-5/16" on this stock. So it looks like I may have a long action. I don't have the .243 here at the office to check the action holes for an exact measurement, but I know it wasn't lining up when I tried it out last night. Going from memory, I would say it was probably an inch short.

A 25-06 is exactly what I was thinking! Really though, I plan to try to sell it first just to see if I can get any interest. If I can't get some of my money back I'll find something to put in it.

Thanks again for the help!
