I just purchased a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x with a ADM recon offset mount.

I like how the rings on the ADM mount clamp together with the two sides clamping together front the sides. The line delineating the two sides of the clamp are at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions (because the two sides of the rings come in from the sides).

I originally thought I could index the scope to rings using that line, and the fiber optic line on the scope located 12 o'clock on the scope, but after doing so, it seems that the reticle was canted.

I used the turrets to move the reticle up and down to confirm this, and re adjusted the scope moving it about 2 degrees clockwise. Reticle seemed fine at this point.

Holding my AR freehand and putting it on the desk, the reticle seemed perfect, but here's the kicker. I decided try it out left handed with my left eye, and damned if it now looks as though my reticle is canted about 10 degrees off. (with the left eye)

Is this normal?

I am right handed and right eye dominant. I do have astigmatism in both eyes if this matters.

I really have been playing with the offset trying to find a good position for the scope to work both shooting freehand, table top, and prone, so i have been @#$%#$% with the scope for a good 2 hours. Now this. Should I bother to readjust it or leave it be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just mounted up the same scope in the same mount yesterday. Did the same as you, lined up the fiber optic with the gap in the rings and the reticle looked canted.

So I used the method I use with my other scopes. Attach bipod to rifle and place on work bench. Attach rail mounted level to receiver and without moving rifle check that level is centered when mounted on both the left and right side. Hang a plumb line from door opening in barn. Go prone 50 yards away and align the reticle with the plumb line while keeping the rifle leveled. With a higher magnification scope I would do this at 100 yards or so.

That said, I just checked and the fiber optic is aligned with the scope rings. Go figure. When I tightened the rings I had to redo it a couple times as the scope would cant a little so maybe that is why it looked canted initially.

Thx Mitch, I did notice that when tighten down the rings, the scope does tend to move a little. I was playing with the position of the scope and adjusting it forwards and back inorder to find a position optimal for sitting, prone and freehand shooting. I was playing with it a bit. I'm still playing with it a bit. I'm gonna try the plumb line method leveling the scope on a bench.

Honestly tho, with a short range scope like this, one or 2 degrees off isn't gonna make much of a difference inside of 500 yards. Now if it were higher power and going 1000 yards, it'd probably be a different story.
