Help judge my build

So I'm looking to build an upper for my LR308 style lower - main purpose is a lightweight hunting rifle as well as some plinking at 300 yards. No long distance stuff really.

Talking with Scott at Specialized Dynamics to build me an upper:

18" Barrel Lilja - Threaded
BattleComp BABC Matte Stainless 7.62 Comp
Apex Handguard - Rifle Length
DPMS Upper

Any suggestions on what I have so far?

Re: Help judge my build

J boyette turned me into the OPS and it its phenomenal to say the least. I've taken my Mega out to 700 and although my skills aren't the best I was able to spot my misses.
As far as DPMS uppers are concerned you'll need to be careful. They made changes to their A3 heights. If you are wanting an aftermarket rail, not sure on the Apex but, most rails won't fit with their new height. I personally would get a Fulton upper so as to not run the risk of getting a new spec.

Re: Help judge my build

Yea I saw where DPMS changed their rail height - luckily a) Apex makes both top rail attachments b) I have no need for a full rail - all it will do is add weight as I won't add anything to it

Boomer,

Let me know how the Lilja barrel shoots.

If your goal is ablsolute lightweight, then you you want to emulate the DPMS LR-308L as closely as possible. That configuration weighs in at 7.9lbs empty, comes with a pretty cost effective brake and a 2-stage national match trigger. My buddy has one and it is a light weight tack-driver. You can get a bit more weight savings by using an MOE/CTR stock or ACE skeleton stock instead of the hollowed out A2 stock.

That DPMS Carbon Fiber free-float tube on the LR-308L weighs 7.6oz. The other lightweight hadnguard is the Troy TRX. It weights 13OZ for the 13.8inch version and about 12oz for the 12" version.

Lastly, be as judicious about weight when you select optics. There are a lot of very nice optics out there but the downside is their heft.

Good Luck.
