OK I need some expert help here ,and what better place to ask. I'm looking at purchasing a n AR(my first)in 6.8. Was looking at Barrett,LWRC, or POF/Hogan. Also would the lwrc be worth the extra money?? Using it for varmint and maybe big game. Or if you have a better idea or direction? Appreciate any advice or comments.

Re: help me decide "please"

I have had several ARs and regularly hunt with them. One of mine is in 6.8 SPC in a Lewis Machine and Tool. This is the only AR that I have ever owned (or shot for that matter) with a monolithic rail. This particular AR has never jammed and is scary accurate with most all the ammo that I have put through it. I do not know if it’s the monolithic rail or the build quality, but it is truly a fine piece of gear. Changing barrels is fast and simple (I have removed the barrel several times and it has always returned to zero). You can choose a new caliber and a new barrel will run you $350 or so. Depending on how much you shoot, it might be cheaper to buy two barrels and primarily shoot .223s. If you are serious about big game hunting you may want to look at the 6.5 Grendel. The 6.8 has a hard time handling heavier bullets (ones with high S.D.). There have been rumors of AKs in 6.5 Grendel in the near future, and if so the price of ammo will come down in this caliber.

Re: help me decide "please"

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I have a Stag 6.8 that shoots extremely well. It easily shoots MOA or under at 200 yds. with hand loads. I primarily use it as a deer rifle now. For hunting, unless you just want to spend the money, I think a Stag would suit you well.

Thanks that's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. No I don't just want to spend the money so I'm looking for the best bang for the buck. I'm kind of trying to break in slow maybe save up for something better later. Thanks again. Any other opinions????
