ok so here is the deal I have an old 700 BDL in 6mm rem from around the 70's that my grandfather gave me its mint with only 20rnds down the tube. Now I have shot it and its a nice rifle don't get me wrong but i really not to fond of the caliber and the fact ammo is hard to find and expensive. I was thinking of sending it off to get done in a different caliber and blue print it among other things.
here is my question I don't know much about these old Remm I know the caliber is rare or outdated lol..is the rifle really worth anything, should I leave it alone or just go ahead and change it up so I can enjoy it. Honestly right now its a safe queen.

I would appreciate some imput and your opinions

Re: help me out with an issue old 700 6mm rem

that is a nice rifle and true it would shoot well hand loaded. but with the stock contour and barrel profile of the BDL I feel it won't be nothing more than a hunting rifle. without re doing the barrel to a thicker profile I don't think it would hold groups well(as in not as good as a heavier barreled rifle) in during a day of normal range use...and if i am gonna rebarrel why not a better caliber?

Re: help me out with an issue old 700 6mm rem

The 6mm Remington bring good money for those wanting a sporter weight as Remington quit chambering the 6mm several years ago. If as clean as what you state it may well fetch enough to buy another action and depending on your luck perhaps enough for a new premium barrel blank. Makes way more sense to sell it as is and buy back what you need then to tear it down. You will get a bit for the stock and barrel but not what a nice complete original rifle will bring!!!

But then what do I know!

Re: help me out with an issue old 700 6mm rem

My 700 BDL 6mm Rem shoots factory ammo lights out. Seriously, right at MOA with 100g Remington Core Loc ammo bought at Walmart for right at $20 a box. Perfect hunting round for North America.

thanks whirl wind and gonzo

think I will keep it and just research some more on finding good ammo. I really dont want to sell it. Just didn't want to scap it for a build if they were worth somthing..

once again thanks to the hide members for the insight

Re: help me out with an issue old 700 6mm rem

Most of them have slow twist barrels, look at the lighter loads. But honestly a 6mm Remmy if you re-barrelled it would be really good at long range. With 105 AMAX's or 115 DTAC's, it will be lights out!

Then it should be a 1:9 twist and will stabilize the bullets around 100gr.
